Short stay

Had a 2 night stay, warden welcoming and informative. Seaview site is not really at Berwick as it’s in spittal (which does have a really nice beach to walk on) and it’s at least a mile walk into Berwick town. Lovely city walls and parkland to walk around once you’re there and plenty of places to eat/drink. Seaview does have a literal sea view but it’s not the prettiest I’ve seen, the trains which passed didn’t really spoil anything during the day but I did hear them first thing ... not a deal breaker though.

A Little Confused!

I've titled this A Little Confused for good reason as I am exactly that after reading some of the other reviews on the site - so I have decided to be as honest as possible about our recent stay at Berwick Seaview. Firstly - the site is in Spittal, not Berwick but its as close as that makes no difference and the approach is from a road with speed retarders then up quite a steep driveway - longer units beware you may ground out. Check in - there are 4 wardens looking after the site and you may find that if you have a larger unit then the pitches available to you will have been partly allocated as the site is not one that you can drive around looking for one that has the best view, faces South for the sun, is not under a tree, doesn't have any neighbours etc - I thought this was a good idea and when you drive onto the site you realise just why. Very happy with our pitch on the 'upper tier' against the East Coast Main Line. Railway Noise - the site is quite long and narrow and is bordered by the ECML so expect trains on it - express trains - with a number of coaches. Also expect freight trains and engineering operations. The trains start early and finish late but honestly they are past in no time and the noise did not bother us in the slightest - in fact we knew what type of train was passing by the end of our stay from the sound. Seagulls - For some reason as the railway quietens down the local seagull population takes up residence and personally they need to be served an ASBO. I thought birds were quiet at night! These are most definitely not. The CAMC need the services of the SAS here (Seagull Assassination Squad) :) These birds will disturb the peace and are more of a pain than a passing HST. Facilities - can be either on your doorstep or a walk away - luck of the draw. Only one block and this would be my only real criticism of the site as it would benefit from a second block at busy times - that said you don't find yourself waiting long for your chosen ablution if you arrive at the same time as everyone else. Would also benefit from renovation at some point but its kept very clean and tidy given the size of site and its full occupancy. Wardens - oh dear CAMC ! Why can't every site have wardens like these? Brilliant, nothing too much trouble, very pleasant and assistive with anything they can assist with! I misplaced a charger for my camera - I asked if I ordered one could it be delivered to the site - no problem at all. In fact it even arrived at my pitch by the grasscutter express! Amazing! If people treat the wardens as fellow humans then I am sure that they will get a beneficial response. All in all a brilliant stay on a brilliant site with great wardens. We will be back to Berwick at some point as there is so much to see in the local area - you can even get a noisy train to Edinburgh for the day for around £19 return.

Disipointed

The site is located high up overlooking the sea, some of the pitches have great views , others no view at all. Unfortunately the site was full during our stay, and we ended up at the back of the site adjacent to the high speed railway line. Trains run from about 04.30am and make much noise. The site is long and thin, therefore all pitches will suffer from the train noise. Our pitch had reasonable views, but spoilt by the constant noise of the passing trains. One dated shower/toilet block, very clean but only one shower block for 98 caravan pitches and a number of tent pitches. Wardens very helpful good location to explore the surrounding area. Would I come back to this site ? No, only because of the train line which I feel should be mentioned in the site details.

Review of Seaview

We found Seaview a lovely site very helpful stewards & well looked after. The position of the site is great, lovely views out to sea & all three bridges in Berwick can be seen, great base for visiting loads of places. The town is 20-25 mins walk & has plenty of good local shops, pubs & eating places. Our stay was made even better by the superb weather we had, i doubt it has been that nice in the borders consistently for years. The best bar in town for real ale & atmosphere is a little micro pub called The Curfew. We will definitely return to Seaview.

Great site and great base for visiting the surrounding area.

Wardens though a bit officious on arrival were great and helped us out with a couple of minor problems during our stay. Site is ideally placed for visiting Berwick and other attractions in the area such as Lindisfarne, Banborough Castle and Angel of The North etc. Site is tidy and well maintained to a high standard as are all Club Sites in the main. Pitches on the upper tier have great sea views if you can get one. Some reviewers have complained about pitch sizes and stated this is not a site where you can easily sit outside the van and relax. I would disagree with that statement entirely. Also several complain about noise from the railway. If they don't like noise why book the site in the first place? Surely they would do as I do and any other competent person and check out the site before booking. Don't know if we will visit the area again but if we do we would certainly use this site again and recomment it to anyone.

15 days of peace and quiet away from it all

We had stayed on this site before but was put off by the attitude of the Wardens then. This stay couldn't have been different. The Wardens couldn't have been more helpful to our particular needs. They were helpful and friendly and made the holiday. We have already booked for another week this year. They enforced the arrival time so that the entrance wasn't clogged. The empty beach was a couple of minutes by car or less than 10 minutes walking. Whether it is history or walks, beaches or castles or empty roads this site is a good place to start. Downside, the toilet/shower block is a bit dated and the trainline runs behind the site but one soon gets used to the occasional noise.

Thoroughly recommend...except for trains if light sleeper

We're motorhomers (7.3 metres) so had no trouble with the entrance, road down etc. but we did notice that some of the super caravans were having to do the double shuffle as it is a site that came into being before the mega units of today. Very helpful wardens who made sure we knew that it isn't a drive around site looking for a pitch. It's long & thin and built were there used to be railway sidings so there are dead ends. Outstanding sea views from the big majority of pitches. Easy walk into Berwick, just aim for the lowest of the three bridges. The beach below is totally dog friendly but the tide does come in very fast so be aware. The one big but is the main line train that runs behind the site. In the day you get used to it but at night, if a light sleeper, the first goods train at 4.50am does mean an early start to the day. Take ear plugs! Only given it two for peace and quiet because it isn't. It's a site to use as a base, not sit outside and take the sun...there isn't enough room if you have a caravan, awning, big car etc. The one for families is the same reason. No play area, nowhere for kids in the surrounding area at all. A great site though if you want to get into the car and travel

A lovely site

What a lovely site and nice wardens. Granted the railway line is adjacent to the site but the trains are not constantly passing and they do become white noise. Didn’t keep us awake or wake us in the morning. Most of the pitches have a Seaview and views of Berwick upon Tweed. The town itself is old and historic. We took the train into Edinburgh which only cost £19.50 return each and stops right near Princes Street and a short walk from the castle. From the site you can walk to a beach which has views of the wall around Berwick. The sea mist when it comes gives the site a slightly eerie feel. It comes and goes quite quickly. We stayed here twice within 3 weeks and would recommend it. Probably not so suitable for children as no play area. If you park in town you pay just £1 for a parking disc and as long as you observe any parking time restrictions you pay no more. Just put the disc in the window with time of arrival and that’s it. Simple. There is even a free parking area near the B&M store.

June 2018

Avoid pitch 23! NO sea view, it and the surrounding pitches are like a piece of waste ground at the end of an Industrial Estate, with a main-line train flying past every 20 minutes about 100 yards away. Brilliant staff, clean site and facilities, just the non-seaview pitch we were allocated, paid for 3 nights, stayed only 1.
