Brilliant site in a great location
We had a very enjoyable 5 night stay at this lovely site situated in the old garden of a ( now demolished) grand Manor House ( Normanhurst Court) with an estate of over 3000 acres.
It has a variety of pitches: a lucky few have great country views, there are wooded glades with just two pitches, there are sunny pitches and shaded wooded ones for when it’s hot.
A shout out to the brilliant warden Paul and the A team who saved us when our car became stuck in the waterlogged grass.
Battle is a lovely small historic town with independent shops and a number of cafes who both accept dogs and have gluten free cakes. We didn’t try any of the pubs in the town.
Can recommend a visit to Battle Abbey in the town square. It’s English Heritage, dogs are allowed throughout including the cafe. There is a walk around the battlefield of the Battle of Hastings, a very informative short film, lots of interesting things to see, a shop and cafe.
We paid off peak senior rate of £11 each + £4 for car park.
You can walk from the site to the nearest village, Catsfield, along the 1066 Country walk which is a wide dry path and takes about 30 mins. There is the White Hart pub at the end of the path. We only stopped for a drink but on a Wednesday evening it was packed so obviously popular.
On our first day we walked from the site to Battle along the 1066 Country Walk, which was about 3 miles. We took the bus back from outside the abbey to Catsfield and walked back from there.
We found a great dog walk at The Great Wood to the East of Battle. leave the town along Marley Lane. It is Forestry England land and has a free car park. Lots of wide dry paths.
