A country retreat with historic interest

The site is in the grounds of a former manor house. Surrounded by a variety of mature trees, pitches are a good size and well maintained. Our pitch was near the North shower block and close to the A271 that runs North/South alongside the site. Whilst generally quiet, some vehicle noise can be heard during the day. Facilities are modern, clean and well maintained. The site is part of the Normanhurst estate. Following walking guides provided by the site, we visited Catsfield and Battle (cycling is not allowed on the Normanhurst estate). Both areas are accessed from the site along wide gravel footpaths through the estate. Walking for around 25 minutes, we arrived in the village of Catsfield where we enjoyed a drink in the White Hart Inn garden. On another day, we walked through the estate to Catsfield and then on to Battle, a journey of around an hour. Part of the walk is on a footpath alongside a ‘B’ road. The majority of the walk is along the 1066 trail consisting of a wide gravel path through the countryside. In Battle, we enjoyed lunch in one of the high street tea rooms. We then visited the 1066 Battle of Hastings Abbey and Battlefield within the town centre; a great historic site cared for by English Heritage and thoroughly recommended. Now for a rant (outside CAMC’s control). The roads in and around Battle on route to the CAMC site are riddled with the worst pot holes I’ve driven over/around so be prepared to ‘dance’ around these irritating craters.
