Ideal for a city visit
Visited last week for a 3 night stop with friends. We'd always wanted to stay here but found booking difficult, but the recent decision to stay open an extra season was useful as so few knew about it - so we got in. Truly brilliantly placed right on the towpath, about 400 yards from the SS Great Britain, less than a very-pleasant walking mile from the centre of Bristol (or there's a regular, ridiculously cheap ferry) - for a motorhomer in particular I can't think many sites could be better placed. The facilities are clean, a little old-fashioned, but fine, the wardens friendly -the pitches all hard standing, and with little greenery (no leaves either at this time of year) so the site is a little stark - but you don't stay here for the site but for the location. BUT - there are downsides. The lack of a dog walk is truly a pain; the very adjacent pub also doesn't take dogs (a fact I found astonishing, given that it must of necessity cut much of their potential evening meal trade - do they REALISE how many CC members own dogs?!);
I've never heard quite so many police and ambulance sirens (though I'm a country boy - maybe I'm spoiled!). Overall, though, very good - but what really takes the biscuit is that the authorities AREN'T - as you might expect - intending to put housing on this absolutely prime real estate plot which would raise millions of pounds towards their no-doubt beleaguered budget, but a junior/primary school....my mouth fell open in disbelief. Go whilst you can - it's worth a visit - and wonder at the stupidity of those who should know better.
