Balbirnie site review
This was our first visit to Balbirnie Caravan Club site. We are a 1hr drive away but due to rush hour traffic took over 2 hrs to arrive. The wardens said they would wait for us after closing(8pm) and they did and still helped us on pitch and told us which local carryouts would deliver to the site. The grass pitch they gave us was near everything and beautiful in the morning with the sun shinning through the trees. Plenty of space between pitches. The site is really well kept with a superb Toilet block, great showers. The site sits within Balbirnie park, which is a 400acre estate with Hotel and golf course and stunning trees and plants as well as a beautiful stream which our dogs loved. This is the best dog walking site we’ve been to in the UK. This site sits in the middle of Fife so is ideal for all of the coastal towns including St. Andrews and Tentsmuir forest. The area has so many attractions, Falkland Palace, St.Andrews, Lomond hills, Perth, so much to do locally in some lovely quaint Fife villages. Cycling has many options, Loch Leven easy 13mile round cycle, we walked it in 4hrs, gentle but not easy, beware the midges north side. The Loch Leven Larder is a must for Food, cakes are fantastic and we bought a wonderful fresh steak pie that we ate at home, delicious. The Boat house at Kinross sits on the Loch and the outside café provide water and a free cup of dog food to revitalise our dogs, sandwiches were great. The cakes at the café at Findatie are special too. There are loads of hidden gems in Fife and Balbirie site is ideal to reach them in a short drive. The village of Markinch is small but Glenrothes is next to it so the nearest retail park is only 2 miles away for all your needs. A big thankyou to the wardens that keep the site in excellent condition, are so accommodating, loved the wee book library and picked 4 excellent books, and a lovely smiling couple who picked everyone’s spirits up.
