Close to the centre of town

Before we came here I was a little worried in respect of some reviews about Ayr as a town. I think that it reflects many seaside towns these days though, in that it is modern and "updated" in some parts and a little run down in others. It wasn't as bad as I expected overall after reading some reviews on here. For us as a family, we personally didn't feel that Ayr had a lot to offer us and be mindful of this if you are planning to stay in the town for the duration of your holiday. It is however a good base to explore other areas, which is what we did. The site itself is in a good location in that you can walk by the river into town, and supermarkets are close by. It is tired though. Some pitches are untidy and has grass/weeds growing on them. The toilet block has good showers and is clean and functional, but again it is tired and in need of a refurb. When we arrived, the wardens were very busy at the time. We were asked to go find and pitch then come back later to pay, which I found unusual. The following day I was accused by a warden of "not listening" when we went to ask about directions into town (although we weren't actually told about how to get into town due to how busy they were the day before). She did note the look on my face in response to this comment and quickly said she was joking, then went on to explain this for us. Overall the information she gave was helpful but I must admit, it left me feeling a little wary about approach her again! We enjoyed our stay but we won't return here as Ayr doesn't offer enough for us.
