This is a gem of a site. Sheltered from the prevailing winds and with well kept hedges, this site is private and enjoyable. There are some lovely riverside walks either upstream or down to the docks. Several bridges afford access to the town centre which is showing a regrettable look of getting rundown due main.y to large out of town shopping centres some miles away. There is some interesting historical buildings and monuments etc to discover should you wish. The beach is popular and free parking makes it an attractive place to be. The views across to Arran are stunning on a clear day. Watch out for jellyfish, there were many washed ashore when we were there. Litter is a problem in town. The loo block is perfectly serviceable. Some members complain it is old. My complaint is the local radio being played unbelievably loudly. If I played my radio in the van that loudly I would receive a visit from the warden. I could hear the radio outside the block. The movement sensors in the ladies toilet did not pick up that my daughter was in the shower late in the evening and the lights went out meaning she had to leave the cubicle to wave her arms to get the lights back on again. It was cold enough to have the heating on too. This site is leased by the club which terminates in 2020. Let's hope the Town Council renew it. This site is too good to lose. It is a pity fees here are so high but that seems to be the case throughout the network these days, new signage will need to be paid for somehow. Some evangelical dog haters had spooked the wardens enough to warn us about dog mess. We didn't see any on our week's stay. We were told our dog must only use 'designated areas'. That's off site then. For accuracy, the vast majority of dog owners are responsible and pick up after their dogs. Some don't and give the rest a bad name. Some members cook bacon and allow the smell to pervade the site. Some like it but some hate it. Some members don't obey the 5 mph signs. Most do. So a bit of balance please.
