IT IS WINTER

I was a wee bit surprised that the heating in the men's toilets was off. Maybe someone had not noticed that it was winter and very cold. I know there is a ? about the long term plans for this site but if we are going to be charged full price, all facilities should be available.

Great site

We’ve just had a lovely relaxing week. This was our 1st time to the site and it won’t be our last. The site was spotless, site staff were very friendly and helpful.

We would come here again

We stayed for two nights while touring. It is in a great position for walking to the shops and restaurants. The walk by the river is OK but unlit at night and dirty underfoot in places but we preferred to walk down the road/old road that was lit. A great place to stop over.

A hidden gem

First time at this site and first time back in the area since 1960 ! As a kid Butlins Ayr was the place to go, so my parents thought. The caravan site is what I would call in a secluded location but the have build a university around it ! First week in July was our visit and the weather was excellent. The site and facilities are well run and spotless. There is a nice walk along the river into Ayr. Ayr itself is like a lot of places these days, closed shops etc but it does cater for the tourist ie lots of eating and drinking places. The beach area has not changed much since my boyhood visit, still sand and sea. After doing loads of walk we took a taxi back to the site, £4 not bad. The next day we found the number 2 bus goes in the direction of the site, even cheaper, zero with our Scottish travel pass. We took a trip to Arran. As we both have senior rail card cards we did a 'Rail and Sail' Ayr to Brodick, cost £11.80, brilliant. A great day on Arran. Another day out is Culzean Castle. If you have kids take a picnic and chairs this is a DAY out. We will be definitely be returning but "the Sword of Damocles" hangs over the site, the university wants it for another car park. I do hope the suites at the Caravan and Motorhome Club are working for all they are worth to keep this site for its members. For this reason I understand why money has not been spent on upgrading the facilities and the entrance to the site. The wardens do a wonderful job and I highly recommend this site and the area to all.

Lovely Stay

Don't let the potholed road approaching the entranceway put you off, this is a lovely well kept site, really pleasant grounds. Folks were all very happy and sociable, wardens friendly and helpful as ever. Facilities a little dated, but spotlessly clean and more than serviceable. Be sure to pick up the leaflet in the information room for the riverside walk/cycle path as it is delightful and the best way in to town, the promenade and the beach. Lots to do in the area: Culzean Castle and Dumfries House are real treasures. Certainly want to come back again.

Ayr

Fantastic two night stop. Wardens friendly as they always are, toilet block a little dated but clean and fit for purpose. Very peaceful and a superb setting with a lovely 15 off road walk by the river to the centre of Ayr. Flat pitches, all hardstanding. Hope to go back for longer.

Very good Club Site

We were on this site for the first time from the 4th to 7th May and was very impressed. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the maintenance staff are very proactive. Facilities were kept very clean and tidy. A small grocery shop would have been helpful but not essential. Will certainly be going back to this Club Site.

Nice week at Ayr again, plenty of walks. Along the riverbank . Ten minutes walk to the town centre. Toilet block needs upgrading. But it was kept clean and tidy.
