Good for families

This site never disappoints

We use this site about three times a year to visit family.  As always, it was immaculately clean and tidy.  The local road to the site is a bit bumpy, but it is important to follow the recommended route!  Ashwell village is VERY congested and narrow in places.  The small housing development being built next door caused a bit of noise during this stay, together with some congestion in the road, but our 5* rating for 'peace & quiet' is for the normal situation.  There is a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches, most of the main part of the site being hardstanding.  The new wardens were OK on arrival, but for most of our stay the relief wardens were in charge.  The main pub in the village, the 'Three Tuns', changed hands about 18 months ago.  The last time we tried a meal there was about 3 years ago and 'never again'.  However, we had lunch there this week and, on the basis of that meal, we would have no hesitation in recommending it now.  If you want a simple site with a toilet block but no frills, near London and with easy access to the A1, and trains to King's Cross about a mile away, this is the one for you.
