No lie in here!

We stayed at this site during half term week to be near a close relative we had not seen for some time. We had two older children and our dog. The site was ok to find, just be aware the road leading to the entrance is quite narrow so take it slow. The directions on the website are accurate as you must not go through the village proper. We arrived early which we are quite often and we are happy to wait. We are happy to take our dog for a walk and the walking here is excellent. Turn left out of the site and you can walk for miles safely. However our welcome was not that friendly. Being a friendly chap I went up to the warden to say hello to be greeted by a sharp, retort ‘I’ll see you later’ so we immediately felt like a hindrance. We were dismissed. What a pain to be 25 mins early. When we did check in it was ok we had our dog on a lead but were told when she approached an area at the back of the small office to keep her away as there was food there. Again not that welcoming. We didn’t get the impression these were dog people. How you make people feel is so important especially if you are just being friendly. Throughout the week there were some minor interactions which made us feel like school children about to be scolded by the male warden and our children were quite intimidated by him. The site was clean and pitches good, toilets and showers were adequate in the Womens though only two showers so there can be a little waiting. The gents showers were not great with one having little pressure and the other had an uncontrollable temperature. We found the site quite noisy with a neighbour for three days deciding to take his toilet cassette and then waste and then filled the water when the time started with a five. In the evenings there is some plane noise as the area seems like a stacking circle for Luton Airport. Also on the one day when we did try to lie in until 10 am the warden decided to mow the lawn areas including behind our caravan (pulling up our dog stake, not putting it back and moved our extended electrical cable) so that put paid to that. Surely this type of activity should happen in the afternoon when people are on holiday? Also the village has a small well stocked pharmacy and a sweet coffee and trinket shop called Rhubarb and Mustard. Go out of the site, turn right then left by the war memorial. While we were there a new Aldi opened on the nearby dual carriageway which was ideal and there’s a big Tesco a roundabout further on towards Royston. Royston is a fine little town and it’s fish and chip shop was lovely. Fine for a mooch around. As the weather was great for February we went for a beach visit to Wells Next The Sea which is about two hours north. There is a great walk, working harbour and some lovely shopping. Overall we would come back if visiting someone in that area and in general terms it’s good with our dog. However it’s not the friendliest place in our experience and not set up for bigger families.

It’s what tends to happen when folk read reviews and like the comments made. Shocking, I know. 😛

I stayed on this site in October 2019.  From this review I believe Scott’s must have stayed somewhere else
