Returning visitor
We try to visit at least 3 times a year for long weekends/mini breaks as it is only 16 miles from home, well 19 miles once you've accessed the site by 'doing a u-turn' at the roundabout on the A23 (London bound), just past Harwoods JLR garage :). The Site Directory used to recommend this route by leaving the M25 at junc 7 onto the M23 London bound/Hooley as I personally think it is easier than negotiating junction 8 Reigate Hill. Obviously NEVER enter the site up Dean Lane, very narrow and steep, unsuitable for caravans, MOHOs and trailers.
We pitched up on the top part of the site close to the top facilities block (the only one open at the moment), the site was tranquil and the site management were very friendly (Gareth in particular) and welcoming and it was great to see a small shop in the main reception once more. We experienced very little if any road noise from the M23/M25 on our pitch, the odd helicopter came across no doubt heading to Redhill aerodrome.
The site is a little remote in terms of walking access to places to eat and drink, there is a small convenience store in Netherne-on-the-Hill which is about a 15 min walk away through pleasant fields and woodland. We often stock up before getting to site or when we pop out, as the weather was amazing we had BBQ's and homecooked pizzas all done outside. The site would benefit from visiting food vans on regular Fri and Sat nights, but understand if occupancy of the pitches is low then it might not be the best place for plenty of business. A few tent campers were there over the weekend we stayed in mid-May 2024.
As the grounds of the site are so large and good walks immediately from the site into the North Downs and Happy Valley then it is a great site just to relax at and walk from without using the car.
One thing we were surprised at is why the Club no longer allows seasonal pitches at this site?
