A Rural Location

Stayed here for two nights over last weekend, site is in a very rural location and is very quiet. The main thing when going to this site is, please do not use sat nav as it will bring you in at a very narrow part of Dean Lane, the directions in the Club handbook are spot on so please follow them. Seems to be a strange road layout coming down from the M23, the site itself is indeed very peaceful with a feeling of great space all around. The only real drawback for us with a large motorhome was not having a car with us, I felt the roads outside not suitable to walk anywhere as there are no footpaths, so make sure you have all your shopping with you. All in all a very good site, good proximity to London and surrounding areas, but limited with no car.

Lovely peaceful site

We had never thought of staying at Alderstead Heath before because being inside the M25 we imagined it to be noisy, built up and generally urban - we could not have been more wrong! The site is in the middle of the countryside, there is no sign of the motorways or the proximity to London at all. It's very peaceful and extremely quiet round about. The site itself is very big but well laid out so that you don't feel as though you're on a large site. The wardens are super friendly and very welcoming indeed. I made a wrong turn on the way in and had to phone for directions and they saved the day with their local knowledge of bushes, gateways and forks in the road to help me find my way. One thing, DO NOT turn off the A23 by Starbucks! I adhered to the directions in the book about not using sat nav, however I assumed this was because you had to drive up the A23 and make a U turn using a roundabout instead of cutting across a dual carriageway, so once I'd gone round the roundabout I followed the sat nav, turned up by Starbucks and instantly found myself on a single track lane with low overhanging trees! The correct and much safer way in is to continue further down the A23 (taking the right hand slip in the road at the junction with the M23) and turn left by the pub that's now an Indian restaurant.

The toilet block was spotless, even though it is one of the older type it didn't matter one bit, it was superbly warm and the showers are really powerful. Overall we were very impressed and hope to come back very soon - following the proper directions this time!

Peace and space

The site was easy to find and good width access roads but please follow the directions given and make the effort to go to the roundabout and back as any chance of a U-turn is a very dangerous option. Once on site you will be met with a very spacious park with large and level varied pitches with lots of mature trees and bushes in a woodland layout. Toilet facilities were usual club design with the only downside being perhaps the need for some new silicon around the edges and a fresh coat of paint. Evening and night time was very peaceful with no traffic noise and just the hoot of the local owl. There is a small playground for kids but with loads to do in the area they probably wont spend too long on site. The hustle and bustle of town is a few minutes away in any direction and one place not to miss was the Beaver water world at Tatsfield around a half hour drive. On arrival you may think you are onto a loser but once inside (£5 adult) you will be very impressed with the amount of animals and reptiles they house and the quality of the enclosures. The Beavers are incredible and really hold your attention. All in all a very nice, easy access site which will probably be even better in the spring and summer (we went in January).

Little gem on our doorstep

We stayed between Christmas and new year with friends. The site wardens were so friendly and accommodating, and pitched us together adjacent to our friends. The children were made welcome too, and immediately given chocolate santas from their Christmas tree! The play area was just behind where we were pitched and was perfect for our children's age ranges. Despite being almost full, the campsite was so quiet and peaceful. We loved the Heath behind the site and took our bikes out several times. The shower block and amenities were warm and spotlessly clean, although we understand they are due to be replaced shortly. Everyone was so friendly and when we decided to stay an extra night, we were offered extra food supplies from our fellow campers! We will definitely return as we are fairly local and it's perfect for a quick weekend away for a change of scenery, but would recommend wholeheartedly to those further afield. It's location is superb.  Thanks to all at Alderstead Heath, we were made so very welcome.

Great site

Spent 6 days between Christmas and 2nd Jan and what a brilliant site to stay on. Excellent for trips into London using local taxi and train as well as just a short drive from Brighton. Staff are lovely, helpful and very friendly. Facilities block has everything you need and is spotlessly clean and are being refurbished soon too. Definitely worth revisiting and would recommend. Plenty of space for children to play with park and open space. lots of local walks and information available on site.

Lovely Site

Lovely site in a great location.  Facilities were clean and well looked after.  Nice pitches with two play areas so good for families.  Lovely walks to local village church that served tea and cake on the Sunday afternoon.  Wardens were friendly and helpful.  Would recommend.

Typical Caravan Club site with reasonable access to London

A typical caravan club site. Good access from the M25 provided you follow the published directions. Don't be tempted to take the short cut along Dean Lane from the A23! Good train access into London from Couldsdon South railway station but note that parking at the station is very difficult at most times. The dog walk is ecxellent. The Fox pub nearby seems popular and is generally recommended. However we found the service there very poor and the food very average.

Just right for a short break

We have used Alderstead Heath a few times now at the beginning and end of each season and enjoyed ourselves. We use it as it's close to where we live and store the caravan but it offers everything we need in a short break. Despite it's closeness to the M25 and M23 you can immerse yourself in the countryside and enjoy walks all round. The Fox inn at Couldsdon South is about 2 miles away and a quick walk across the aptly named Happy Valley. The wardens have always been very helpful and the facilities are fit for purpose. The bottom block is closed in the Winter but with so few people about that doesn't matter at all. We will return!

Wet weekend

Our first trip out in our new van. The site was peaceful and friendly. Access is a bit tight if you don't follow the guides directions. Definitely will be visiting again when the suns shining
