Well kept site

We arrived on Friday pm, we were last on the site so last pitch,(5) beware if you have to go on this pitch as Electric kept on tripping, although we only had basic things plugged in, but we have since seen another review which mentioned this problem. Very well kept site, go just about 100yds to get onto the Tissington Trail. well placed site to get to lots of other places in the area.

Super helpful owners

Our first outing of the season and we were faced with a non operating water pump. On telling Richard that we may have to return home he would have none of it, details of a repair man was provided, their home phone was made available for phone calls, use of their own shower and wash facilities were offered. In the end we bought and fitted a new pump and all was well but they could not have done more to try to assist us. Lovely views from the site, very quiet, free use of maps and brochures, very good facilities including wifi, all hard standings. Our neighbours said they kept tripping the electrics but we had no such problems and we had the electric space heater, water heater, kettle, tv etc all on together. Highly recommended and we will be back. My only comments to Richard and Janet are that I am surprised that the new hard standings were not made quite level which surely was possible and the stones on the surface are large which can be uncomfortable to walk on and cut into the awning flooring. Apart from that I really cannot fault it.

Original review resubmitted

ORIGINAL REVIEW IN SEPT 2015 It’s difficult to add too much to all the previous positive reviews for this gloriously laid back site. An article in MMM in March 2012 had been retained due to the great review and the closeness of the Tissington & High Peak Trails plus the dales of Biggin, Wolfscote & Beresford. We stayed 5 nights in September 2015 and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Richard & accompanying hounds were on hand to ensure that we were OK. We caught a batch of showery weather and, as the site is all grass, we were a bit concerned about tracking a 3.5T motorhome across the pristine grass. We did leave muddy grooves when we departed! So a site to be aware of the underlying ground conditions as it was quite squidgy after a few days of heavy rain. Hartington was just over a mile away with a newsagent, general store, two pubs & a café. The Waterloo Inn at Biggin was also a short distance away via. a footpath across fileds. Whilst we were there, the Hartington Show was in action so we stopped for a while to see a traditional country fair with sheep & cattle competitions with the blood hounds that we had seen enroute along with some “duck bothering” [which was a version of sheep dog trialing!]. There was also a beer tent which was selling the local brew. This is a site that we will return to when we can guarantee some fine weather [if that is possible!] as is superbly located for walking & biking. UPDATE - as explained this superb site has lost all it's reviews in the recent website "upgrade"!! So we have reposted our original review when the site was just grass. We returned over Xmas 2016/New Year 2017 and, with all pitches being hardstanding, the site is even better! PilgrimPhil

Best Early Season Open All Year Site

What a Gem of a site, with 5 hard standings and tremendous views. Loads to do in the Area walking, cycling and general site seeing. Easy access to Ashbourne, Bakewell, and Buxton as well as the small interesting villages within a 10-mile radius. Hartington is just down the road with a village store, post office and various other shops. Try some of the local cheese and beer. The Tissington trail is close by for cycling on a fairly level pathway away from the roads. Thank you to Richard and Janet and their lovely dogs for a great few days, even thought it was rather cold, we really enjoyed ourselves. Will be back later in the year. January 2017

Snow in February & what a beautiful place to enjoy the moment

We stayed on this beautiful site in the middle of February for a short break over the weekend. The owner was exceptionally helpful & friendly which was comforting to experience upon our arrival. The site has hard standing & more than sufficient space between each pitch which ensured privacy was assured. Fresh water & chemical toilet disposal is easily accessible & due to the freezing conditions the owners had turned the water supply off for the weekend & we accessed an alternative supply through their courtyard which was no inconvenience at all. The views over the countryside are spectacular & Hartington is circa 1 mile away which is beautiful & quaint with a cheese shop, a couple of coffee shops & 2 local pubs. The Tissington trail is literally 200 mtrs away via the access road bridge which is really convenient for walking to. It snowed on the Saturday & Sunday which made the stay even more special & the surrounding hills & countryside made spectacular viewing covered in white 'powder'. We are hoping to visit this site again next week, so can highly recommend.

Lost reviews by Caravan Club update mean loss of business - please support us!

Reviews have all been positive particularly as we now have 5 hard standings which are pretty level. Views from the site are stunning and there are walks "from the gate". The Tissington cycle trail is about 200m from the site and the facilities are great including chem empty point, 16amp electrics and recycling facilities. All reviews have said we are friendly and helpful so please book and find out how fab our site is while the CC mess about with the web site problems! Thanks.

Found it.

Have been looking for a peak district bolt hole and have found it - Whitehouse Farm. Easy to find, easy access, even for a 4x4 and twin axle van (without motor mover...), wifi - a must with a gadget needy teenager....., tv signal, good walks, good pubs and good food, not forgetting the helpful, chatty but not intrusive  Richard and Janet. sorry to have to leave early due to van issues but will we be back? Yes.

First CL

This is the first CL we have been on although we have been members for 17yrs. If all CL's are of this standard we will not use anything else! Laid back, clean and tidy. Miles of walking from the site. Excellent.

Peaceful Site - beautiful location

Arrived and welcomed straight away.  Local information provided.  Hubby and I are keen cyclists and went on a lovely 50 mile ride including some tough climbs.  It is very near the off road cycle network - which is suitable to ride on all bike types including road bikes too.   Our second day we had a lovely hike to Hartington and then a longer hike back following the beautiful Wolfscote Dale and Biggin Dale routes. The very minor only downside to the site is that the pitches were quite unlevel and I was not told when booking to bring extra leveling blocks which would have been very useful.  As we only had a couple of wedges and the van was not fully level though out our stay - but it did not cause us major problems. Would go back again without hesitation.  (With extra leveling blocks though).
