Clean, well managed site in a very peaceful location

We stayed here in our motorhome for 2 nights en route to the Western Dales. The site is immaculate and is in a very peaceful location. Good walks from the site and easy access to the Wensleydale Railway (which unfortunately was not running during our stay due to Covid restrictions). The main down side for us was the difficulty in filling our on-board water tank. This is not the first site we have been to this year where the tap fitting makes it impossible to connect a hose and the short piece of hose attached to the tap is designed for filling a caravan water container. It is probably also worth mentioning that there are 2 CLs on this site meaning that there were a total of 11 vans at the farm. Not a great problem as the site is very peaceful. It would however be useful to know this before booking as it could influence your choice.

Fantastic Farm Site

We have just returned home from a 4 night stay at this lovely site. The owners are very friendly and have a lovely site within their farm setting. The site is accessed via a large opening from the main road in the village. Once through the gates you are onto your site. The site is grass and pretty level with views over farm land and a paddock which had sheep in when we were there. There are the basic facilities, water, refuse and a chemical toilet disposal point there is the use of a toilet on the site, but we just used our own. The site is very well kept and the owners don’t bother you. There is a pub in the village, but we didn’t visit it. I have heard it is very good though. I would definitely be recommending this site to friends and I will certainly be returning, probably quite regularly.

Mud mud glorious mud

I am sure this site is ideal in summer.  Unfortunately, we stayed in January when the ground turned out to be too soft despite reassurances from the farmer to the contrary, ie we got stuck and he kindly towed us out.  The wind was so bad on the second night we parked in a more sheltered spot on the road outside the site.  We were nevertheless charged for 2 nights.  Would stay again but only in summer.

Peaceful rural site

Lovely flat site in peaceful location. Plenty of room so easy to site caravan. Pretty village with pub only a few minutes walk away. The pub serves food and had an extensive menu but not cheap. We went out at 9.00 pm for a drink and the pub was empty apart from one other couple. The landlord said that his main business was from food orders and that he normally closed at 10 pm!! Not the warmest of welcomes, needless to say we went to Harmby the next night for a drink.  The train station is just outside the village and handy for visiting Leyburn and Bolton Castle (a 30 minute walk from Redmire Station). The toilet is located in the barn adjacent to the field, separate toilets for men and women but no toilet paper or soap!!  We loved the rural setting and will visit again. The farm dog is a regular visitor and is as soft as a brush. All in all a good site.

Brilliant site

We stayed at this well cared for site in June 2014 and had a wonderful time. The owners were very friendly and Richard was very good with our son who has special needs, he was willing to explain things to him concerning the farm and the animals, nothing was too much trouble for him. When we asked our son where he wants to go next time he said, straight away, 'we are going to Richards of course!' The scenery is great and there are many interesting places nearby to visit. We will definitely be returning.

Lovely area

Stayed here April 2014. Lovely flat site with paddock in the middle housing sheep and lambs. Great views across the dales. The farm is at the end of the village and within about 10 minutes walk to the local pub the Queens Head. We ate at this gastro pub 3 times. As a previous reviewer noted its not cheap, however, its very good quality food and we will happily return. The village station in Finghall is on the heritage railway line. We took the train from Finghall station (as seen on all creatures great and small)  to Redmire where we walked around Bolton Castle and onto Asygarth Falls and then back to Redmire before getting the return train to Finghall. It was a lovely walk and we loved the train. It's like stepping back in time. The train also stops at Leyburn a lovely small market town with nice shops and cafes to browse around. As a motorhome user this was a good site for us as we didn't move the motorhome during our stay being able to walk to the station and the pub. There is also a bus stop outside the pub. We will use this site again.

A bad year, weather wise.

Date of visit August 2012 This was a busy site, 10 vans the whole time. It rained constantly and the flat ground had no chance to drain, there was standing water - huge puddles in the grass. The owner had to tow off two vans with his 4x4 while we were there, and we were pushed off when we left. We cut our stay short because off the weather and trying to cope with two dogs in the mud. The local pub was friendly with reasonable food. Lots of places to visit nearby, the countryside is lovely.

Excellent Site

Lovely flat site with some lovely places to visit, very friendly owners who make you feel very welcome. The train station is about 1/2 mile away where you can have a lovely scenic ride.
