Lovely site in an ideal location to explore the Shropshire Union Canal and surrounding towns and countryside.
We were very lucky in being the only unit on site during our stay but the CL is large enough to cater for 5 units with plenty of space in a field which overlooks the adjacent farm fields. The site is set up well with electric hook-ups, single male and female toilets and cassette emptying point.
Entry onto the driveway into the CL is best attempted from the Lapley Village direction as the road camber and tightness of turn is not ideal from the opposite way. We did have a little trouble in spotting the Caravan Club CL sign but maybe that's just us (old with poor eyesight?).
There are bus stops directly opposite the CL and also in Wheaton Aston which is a 15-20 minute walk from the site where you can also join the canal and walk or cycle the towpath for miles.
We visited Stafford and Wolverhampton easily by bus and although Telford can also be reached on public transport a car would be more practical. There are many footpaths around for walks in the surrounding countryside which generally has gentle inclines rather than steep hills.
Kevin and his wife were very welcoming and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend this CL.
Great location, just a couple of tweaks needed
A well-located CL within easy reach of the A5 and M6, with lovely countryside views from all pitches. From here you can visit big cities, attractive old towns and the Ironbridge Gorge world heritage site. The entrance to the CL is very attractive with a little ornamental pond and a "bar" which wasn't in use when we visited in early November. The toilets are very nice, very well finished and it's good to see separate ladies' and gents', a rarity on a CL! The grass pitches are spacious with picnic benches that take advantage of the stunning view. However, improvements are needed... we arrived in the middle of a spell of very wet weather and the CL field was very boggy, but the previous month had been exceptionally warm and dry, so there was no excuse for the grass having been left to grow as long as it had Short wet grass is not a problem, but long tussocky wet grass is, and our feet were constantly soaked. On this sort of ground, hardstanding would be much better. The signage from the road is non-existent, the CL is called Wenlock Bank but what you see from the road is Mileford Cottage which is the owner's house, the CAMC sign is on the bar building just inside the driveway, so it's very easy to overshoot the entrance, and then you have a big problem backtracking. A sign is needed at the roadside. Also the directions on the Club website need to be rewritten, technically the t-junction of Congreve Lane and Lapley Lane is a left hand turn, and the "2 bridges" referred to are not readily identifiable as such, they are just some barriers at the side of a ditch. Nor is the CL ideal for dogs as is claimed, because the surrounding roads are narrow country lanes with no footpath and fast-moving local traffic, and the nearest off-road footpath goes across a field where sheep are grazed! We also thought £20 a night in November was a tad steep, £18 is more realistic. This is a fairly new CL so we hope the owners will take our comments on board and consider making the improvements we've suggested.
