We stayed at this site for five nights mid april, on our way to Scotland for a tour of the highlands, to be totally honest we could quite happily have satyed where we were. It's a dream of a place to stay , the views were amazing all around, and watching the sheep with their lambs was so relaxing. Phillip the owner was charming as well!! will definately be looking forward to spending more time here. Thank you for letting us stay, if you like peace and tranquility in a rustic rural countryside setting, this is for you.
We Spent 5 nights at this site over Christmas 2022. we thoroughly enjoyed our time, it was everything we were looking for. Quiet, peaceful, fantastic scenery and great walks. Philip (the owner) was very helpful and very pleasant. This is a working farm so you need to ensure your dog remains under control but there are plenty of areas they can run without worrying other animals and Philip happily provided information on where we could go for walks. There is also an excellent pub within a 20 minute walk as well as a cycle route straight into Keswick. We will definitely come back again.
After staying for 8 nights we are pleased to say how much we enjoyed the site. We have stayed at Wallthwaite in December almost every year from 2009, but missed the last couple of years due to Covid-19 restrictions and concerns.
The site has barely changed from when we first stayed. The amazing views of Blencathara are always different as the weather changes. There is a new stable block from which the inquisitive horses like to watch your arrival or departure.
There are new owners, but it is as lovely as it has always been. There are all the necessary things for a CL – fresh water supply, somewhere to empty the waste and electric hook-up. It is well worth remembering that when the overnight temperature is -8C the fresh water tap will freeze. This is not a major issue as the owner is more than happy to provide an alternative source of fresh water.
For a working farm the site is very peaceful. It probably helps that it is a sheep farm and not a dairy farm. We did enjoy watching the sheep from the caravan while we were having breakfast along with the little robin.
For many years now I have always checked the cost when booking as the website often doesn’t have the up to date price. I do wonder how much of this may be to do with issues getting the website updated. At £17.50 per night we felt that we had good value, particularly when it was so cold overnight.
We enjoyed the stay and were made to feel welcome by the new owners.
Thank you.
Lovely picturesque site. Visited with 8ft wide van. Entry is a bit tight but got in ok. Arrived in the dark so that made things appear worse getting in safely. Exit during daylight was much easier. We saw the farm dog which wasn’t fastened up as in previous review and it certainly wasn’t emaciated. Owners were polite. Just surrounded by beautiful views, sheep in the fields. Very tranquil and peaceful. Would definitely return.
This site has fantastic views and a great location . Unfortunately that is all it has .
We have just returned upset at the way the owners so called pet dog was treated . It was constantly chained up , lived in a tiny outside kennel on dirty straw , and left over food.
We were not the only ones who complained ..
He has horses which were looked after , but the dog was not , and his attitude was not the best .
It has water , a hole for waste , and that's it .. No fire extinguishers/ toilet
The price is now £17.50 not £15.00 as advertised .
Been there , done it , thanks
Just had a fabulous weekend at this very peaceful site. Had our tea looking at the fabulous views of Blencathra and surrounding hills listening to birds singing and the stream running past. Very relaxed site freindly helpful owners. Highly recommend.
We have recently stayed on Wallthwaite CL, which was lovely and quiet and had a lovely stream running to the side of it. The views were beautiful and the site was ideally situated for local attractions.
would highly recommend if you just want peace and quiet and no frills.
will return

This site is in a beautiful location located next to a small river with beautiful views over fields and the fells. It has been easy access from the M6 and A 66. This is a working farm and several pu be lucky footpaths fun through the site into the surrounding countryside.
The site is immaculate with the grass cut short regularly. Easy access to water and toilet waste disposal.
Basically a site not to be missed a credit to the owner.
This is exactly what you expect from a CL. Peace and tranquility - far enough away from A66 for it not to be heard. All you can hear is the babbling stream , sheep and birds … oh and hens in next field . The view is to die for - in the shadow of Blencathra with smaller peaks to the south - snow covered when we visited !
But the most amazing thing is how helpful the owner is - we arrived and set up awning and all - to find our water heater had packed up . We tried several local caravan repair places to no avail so thought we’d have to move. However a last thought to call the owner to see if he could help led him to offering us the use of the bathroom in the on site holiday cottage. He even refused to take any extra money !! What an absolute star.
The cottage also happens to be brilliant so if you have non caravan friends I can recommend that too
Thanks Philip you saved our holiday !
