We stayed here late July this year for five nights, would have liked to stay longer but not surprisingly the CL was booked up for the weekend.
After looking at the position of the site on the satellite map we decided to use the second approach road to the CL as suggested by dolphinGB in his review, as this road is wider.
The site is very well maintained and set in a lovely English village location, perfect positioning for touring this area.
We would happily visit here again.
Lovely little CL just across the road from the village green and the cricket pitch - how much more archetypal English can you get! You want a pub....there's one of those too! Spacious pitches, quiet, overlooking meadow land - great. Agree with dolphinGB in last post - instructions for access could be better!
If you want peace and tranquility then this is the CL for you . An immaculate site with water tap at each pitch and excellent wc disposal. If like us you like birds then this site is ideal with the barn owl making a nightly visit over the pasture at dusk, as well as curlews in the meadow. Nice to hear the unobtrusive chimes from the church clock across the meadow - and yes it is a little gem of a site !
This lovely site is very well maintained. Short grass, collected,on large pitches each with own water supply.Good toilet disposal facility, friendly owner and even fresh eggs for sale! Lovely field views, and the local church, the photos do reflect the genuine picture.Super quiet at night. The village is a gem, lots of cricket on the green, and a good pub nearby.(Poor vegetarian food choice though). The area is very good for cycling, with lots of choices of quiet lanes to explore, right out into Wensleydale, or back to Masham.Decent site access but hidden from the village. I felt the recommended approach road was far too narrow, and would use the next road along (nearer to Bedale) which is bigger. A lovely site.
stayed 3 nights, warm welcome, very clean site with good facilities including water upon the pitch.fairly level with well manicured grass.very quiet rural setting with lovely views including the village church with hourly chimes.a warm welcome awaits at the buck inn 400yds away facing the village green. Will definetly return.
Lovely quiet peaceful site. The road in may be a little narrow for about half a mile but it was no problem.
Scenic and quite with a lovely village green. Will return.
Nice site quiet site in a quiet village but access can be difficult as the CL is behind the village hall and the last time we went inconsiderate parking at the village hall made it very tight. Good location to tour the area.
This is a superb little site close to many places of interest. Once you have travelled the narrow road into Thornton Watlass, with fingers crossed, you are rewarded by a most tranquil little village with a village green cricket ground. On the site you have in an adjacent field sheep, cows, friendly chickens and a daily visit from the local pheasant.
The gazebo which encloses the chemical point is something to be seen to be believed. On many sites the thing that lets it down is the toilet waste emptying 'site' and believe me I have seen and dealt with many which I cannot understand the club passing- some are disgraceful. On this site it is a pleasure, if there ever can be such a thing, and the owners deserve a site of the year award for their initiative
This is a fabulous little site where the only sounds are the sheep and cows in the fields and the bells of the village church. It is well laid out with individual water points for most pitches. It is level and well cared for. There is recycling on site and the chemical toilet disposal point is hidden away in a wooden gazebo. The owners really care about their visitors and are keen that the experience is good. It is a nice area to visit with plenty of varied places to visit or activitiesto pursue.
Highly recommended.
