Good Value For Money

At £12.00 per night, Venn Farm offers five serviced pitches with the only noise coming from the resident bird population. This makes for a pleasant and relaxing stay and is to be recommended. Full payment is required on arrival but we did receive half a dozen free range eggs in return which were lovely. There is walking from the site along quiet lanes and there are a number of places to visit within easy reach by car - Lydford Gorge, NT Llanhydrock, Dartmoor and the coast. Wi-Fi was intermittent. Although all the pitches are hard standing, there is only one (pitch 5) which is wide enough to accommodate a caravan and an awning. I mention this because we stayed during a prolonged spell of wet weather and the site does not drain particularly well - clay. The grassed areas and the entrance to the woodland walk were an absolute quagmire. Although we followed the directions in the book to arrive at the CL, Launceston presents some quite tight turns (we have a twin axle) and the lane on the final approach is quite narrow with two humped back bridges and a steep climb (although we didn't meet anything). When we left, we turned right out of the site (having already done a recce) and used the road past Roadford Lake to join the A30. This lane is wide and well surfaced and is, in our opinion, a much better option than trying to navigate around Launceston. If you did decide to come in this way, leave the A30 at Bratton Clovelly/Roadford Lake and follow the road over the dam head. It is 7 miles to the site this way. On the approach to the site, do not overshoot as the CL sign is positioned for traffic coming in the opposite direction. Look out for Scotland Farm and a post box on the right. Site entrance is in about 100 yards on the left opposite a cream painted house.
