We had a friendly welcome on arrival by Ian who was so helpful... probably the best reception we have ever had. We stayed here visiting the York and Castle Howard Proms. The site is surrounded by mature woods. With the views from your caravan spectacular. Mobile phone and television reception are excellent. There is a beautiful little church adjacent to the site. The site is convenient for York, Monks Cross and Park and Ride... there only a few miles away. Since our last stay water as been relocated on site. You can also pay on arrival. We cannot recommend this site highly enough. Just the type of site you need for peace and quite.
Lovely visit
We have just had a week at this site. Whilst some folk had trouble with electricity being 6amp we always use gas anyway for boiling water and had no problem with electric for lights etc. The site is very rural although only 10 mins from York. The hall is beautiful as is the surrounding countryside with glorious views of the hills.

Our Visit Aug 2014
This is a quite site with lovely views to wake up to, the cows in the next field even come to the fence to say hello which we thought was lovely.
However getting our van on was difficult because the swing isn't very good. Before we had even managed to take the van off they were there wanting us to pay! think this was a bit weird just getting jumped on!
The worst thing about this site is the amperage is only 6 VOLT instead of the normal 12. Would we go again probably not because of the reasons in our review.
November 2013
Pleasant site, with all the facilities you would need, although they are spread out a little. However there are lots of CL's which offer much worse facilities. Site owner very obliging. Good views, usually very quiet. Convenient to visit York. We have used this site many times, site owner is very pleasant, my first choice of site when visiting the York area.
Rural tranquility with back to basics facilities.
I stayed on this site a the end of May 2013 and found it ticked most of the boxes for me and my wife. It is close to York, the reason for our stay here. I recommend the Park and Ride which is just off the A64 island into York. Access to the site is easy. The site only has 6 amp hook-ups so take care not to trip it out. The fresh water and bins are in the yard to the Hall. The view from our caravan was a rural idyll over fields and woods towards the Howardian Hills. The cows move around the adjacent fields and there is a tribe of resident chickens.
This site offers a back to basics approach to caravanning and is good value. With a modern well equipped outfit what more do you want?
One of the worst CL's we've used
The CL is one of the worst we have stayed at. The site is very undulating (resembled a cow field). The electric cable had to be trailed across the site to an outhouse and plugged in there (quite dangerous as vehicles driving over them). There was one sort of hardstanding which had a semi-permanent vanner on it.
The access to the site is very tight from the road with no room to swing, so if you have a large unit, I wouldn't attempt it. You enter the site down a track past a row of cottages - the inconvenience to them must be appalling. The water tap is not on site, back out to the road past the cottages and into the owners courtyard where the tap is located. The CDP was a sink with a cover in the middle of the field. The owner wasn't very welcoming - in fact she asked for the money before we'd even had time to pitch up in the pouring rain.
Not a good experience - BUT we did visit quite a long time ago and things may have improved.
