Could do with some improvement

We spent 2 nights at this CL which was full. Our pitch had a small grass area which had not been cut recently and had grass cuttings etc dumped nearby. Being a working nursery the gates were locked outside business hours but you can get out on foot. Thornton Reservoir is just over the road and is a very pleasant walk with dogs. Had to tell the owner that the chemical disposal tank was overflowing, got the impression that they don't go down to the CL part that often. Don't think we will return.

Re Visited

Returned again 2016. Great Site Very Warm Welcome as always. Great Walks for the dogs. Very Wet weekend but still a lovely stay. We did struggle with some TV stations, even with a booster. I agree with previous review maybe the area could do with a little TLC, but do not let this put you off. Local Shop for papers/milk/bread, handy if you are in a Motor Home.

Lovely location

The site is located close to the reservoir and from our pitch we had a good view . Lots of great walking from the site around the reservoir and also fields and woods beyond. The owner very pleasant and his nursery full of quality plants , well worth a look. We spent three nights and it was wet and windy but the site is well protected and we felt the benefit during the storm. The downside for us is that the site is a little small and a bit overgrown around the edges. There were three on when we were there and I'm glad it wasn't full. There is limited grass area to sit out and hard standing a little rough . As we didn't have good weather it wasn't a problem but may have felt cramped if we had wanted to sit out with dogs on a sunny day. Will visit again as a excellent stop over point so close to M1

Weekend spot

A spring getaway and very welcoming owners. Access just needed a little care for our motorhome, 20.5 feet.  Lovely to be right beside the reservoir although no actual views. Quiet and some nice walks especially to village pub and round the reservoir - the nursery was a temptation too!!

Not really suitable if you have a large van without motor mover.

Access to the site is tight if you have a large caravan (although did confirm with owner as to size, our van is 8m and he said it would fit) and manoeuvring onto a pitch would have been extremely difficult if others had already been pitched up. Thankfully there were no others on site when we arrived, allowing us plenty of room to manoeuvre. The grassed areas for awnings were trimmed but the rest of the site was overgrown with nettles, thistles and goosegrass around the pitch markers and EHU. The reservoir is just across the road, and like previous reviewer it would have been nice to have had a view of it.

Really Great Site

Lovely site tucked inside its own tree lined border with easy access to Thornton resorvior and lots of pulic footpaths. David and his family were very helpfull and welcoming. The local Bricklayers arms had good food, nice pint and friendly welcome especially to our dogs (treats). We will be giving this CL another visit.

Overnight stop

Chose this site for an overnight stop. The site is spotless and well set out, the welcome was warm and friendly with lots of info on the area. Has a great selection of local pubs within 5 minutes walk and a great view of the reservoir which you can walk round. Very peaceful and handy just off the M1. Would highly recommend for a longer stay.

Great Weekend in the Spring Sun

We are 30 mins drive from this site. All hard standing with grass to pitch awning. Very warm welcome from the family owners at the garden center. Small village shop. 3 pubs all a short walk away. Coffee Shop at the Garden Center open daily.  Directly across the road Thornton Reservoir Great Paths suitable for wheelchairs and dogs walkers like ourselves. Views limited from site but I did ask if the trees could be thinned as to make the view across the water one of the best CL Sites in the area.  We will certainly be re visiting.

Thornton Nursery CL

A very peaceful site within the village of Thornton. Ate/drank in the 2 local pubs [The Reservoir Inn a gastro-pub, the other Bricklayers Arms with good food and more "local". I prefered the Bricklayers]. Convenience store open until 8pm. Dave and son Ben run the nursery and a v. friendly and helpful. The nursery itself has a small, family run cafe. Shielded views over the reservoir, the site has gravel-graded hardstandings and hook-ups, all in a secluded area of the nursery. Lots of local walking; hourly bus from 100yds away, 40 mins to Leicester centre.
