A good spot which could have been even better.

Scenery around site fantastic. Pitches all hard standing with own water tap and grey waste point. Owner was ok but we had to extract local area info out of him; it was not automatically offered on arrival. Given that there was no loo on the site I think the campers could have been encouraged to use the loos in the adjacent restaurant/hotel even if access was only during agreed times. We were not encouraged to do so and the bar prices were expensive. Borderline expensive for what was on offer but great for Loch Ness and Inverness.

Great for Inverness, Loch Ness and the surrounding area

We were warmly welcomed on our arrival. The pitches are positioned so your outfit faces the beautifully views. Each pitch is serviced with a tap, grey water drain and electricity. The CL is compact and some pitches are not suitable for larger outfits such as twin axle outfits, so contact David or Mary before you book and arrive. The surrounding roads are quiet and ideal for cycling and there are a number of forest walks close by. Inverness is close by, as a number of other attractions.

great site

What lovely people the owners are, we spent 7 nights in August and we had a great time and the restaurant was fantastic what a warm welcoming place to dine and loved the conservatory could have sat there all night.

Dinner at the hotel

I am sure this is a beautiful spot to spend some time. However, despite reading many positive reviews by CL visitors about the food provided by the hotel, we were not allowed to sample it. We were informed upon arrival that we would only get a meal if two of their guests in the hotel decided not to dine In. And that we would have to wait until 5 p.m. to know whether this would be so or not. As Inverness is a 20-25 minute drive away from the campsite, we decided not to risk it and found alternative accommodation elsewhere - where there was a restaurant nearby. We do not know who the woman was who told us the bad news. She could have been the owner. But she never smiled once, or made the slightest apology. We were made to feel very unwelcome indeed. My advice to others hoping to eat here when staying at the CL is - ASK BEFORE BOOKING IF FOOD WILL BE AVAILABLE. We were most disappointed and felt that we should have been prewarned about the scarcity of meals available.

Beauty in all directions

Georgeous views of hills and mountains. Surprised by little group of young grouse right up close! Mrs Allen spent all the time we wanted to point out the areas that would be of local interest to us, including many wildlife spots. Whisky range in bar was excellent, as was knowledge of all types.

Excellent Site

Excellent site, well laid out with good facilities. Friendly owners and the restaurant is an added bonus, especially after a few weeks touring in a small campervan.

Perfect

We stayed in June 2015. A remote location near err nothing really. Mary and Dave are lovely and the pitches afford superb views. Serviced with grey and fresh water and electric at each pitch. Lovely spot. We had dinner in the hotel which was excellent but it isn't cheap. I will dream of the haggis and black pudding tower for some time I fear. If you are going to stay here you need transport to go out but an excellent location it being central.

Constructive criticism

Place deserted on arrival Sun lunchtime no welcome. Although owners really pleasant only saw them first day for few minutes and not again and stayed on site all week. Beautiful surroundings but very remote site with zero facilities. Needed to drive distance on single track roads to go anywhere. Although hotel restaurant it is not open until 6pm each evening with limited choice and expensive menu. Would not choose a second stay here for reasons above.

How can a CL like this only get an average 3 star rating?

This site is an absolute gem. We stayed early August 2014. The owners are really nice and so helpful. We wanted to see dear and eagles whilst in Scotland and was given advice of a lovely drive  to an area for viewing. Spot on. We had a meal at the hotel. Delicious, great service and really good value.  It was peaceful and quiet. No noise from the hotel. This should be a 5 star.

great little site

Fabulous site with restaurant attached. Only draw back is no toilet or shower but that is what it says. I think it would improve it but it never claimed to have these facilities and doesn't really need them, I would just prefer it if they were available. Restaurant is fab, fab service, beautiful hotel, wonderful food, but not cheap. However you do get what you pay for , all top quality! Very happy, will return.
