A special place

This relatively newly opened CL (not yet in the CAMC directory) is a fantastic addition to the CL network, particularly in such a stunningly beautiful area of the Yorkshire Dales, which has previously been lacking in CL provision. This is truly a special site, the views of Pen-y-ghent are amazing & the facilities provided are first class. (A pristine unisex toilet/shower room, laundry (small charge for the washer & dryer) with useful local information & recommendations). Recycling is available & an environmentally friendly approach has been taken in the CL design. A wide variety of walking routes from "easy" to "challenging", are available direct from the site. The access from the road is probably "tighter" than most but certainly not daunting when taken with care. The road noise can be noticeable at times, during working hours, due in part to Dales quarry traffic. The Settle/Carlisle railway runs through Horton & trains have to sound when approaching the station (great for train enthusiasts who have warning of approaching steam engines, visible from the CL!!). Although the CL surface is grass with no hardstanding available, the ground is very firm & drains well (useful for Pennine weather!!). We had no problems at all getting off with our motorhome (a motorhome at the top end of the dimensions allowed on this CL) despite having significant rainfall during part of our stay. A warm welcome from Jane & Robert awaited our arrival & the pre-arrival booking/administration was very well organised & efficient. Real care & thought have been applied to this CL "project". I envisage that early booking will be needed, particularly for weekends, in the future, as it comes to more people's attention but I believe that, at present, midweek stays can be booked at short notice.

Wonderful Week in Horton

Wonderful Week in Horton This site is quite the gem. Robert and Jane, the perfect hosts and provided plenty of information regarding things to see and do. The views from the site towards Pen-y-ghent were simply stunning. Only 4 Stars for Peace and Tranquillity simply because of some road noise at busy times of the day and the Train Whistle which is sounded every time a train passes on the Settle to Carlisle Railway. However, it really wasn’t a problem and I mention it simply to be completely truthful. Only 4 stars for Ease of arrival and welcome because again being completely truthful the entrance is rather tight and could prove difficult for the less experienced person towing a Caravan. There would be 10 stars if it were possible for the absolutely pristine Toilet and Shower facilities. Also, the Clothes Washer and Dryer. Exceptional.

Excellent

Wonderful location, very welcoming hosts, walking from site or a short drive away. Railway station very close, ideal for travelling further afield without driving. Very good laundry facilities and shower - we usually use our own facilities but made an exception this time. Highly recommended.

Location Location Location

This cl site is a perfectly located walkers paradise Pennine Way, the 3 Yorkshire peaks and many more all from the site. If you want to venture further without moving your motorhome/camper there’s a train Station a 5 minute walk from the site. All the amenities are spotlessly clean with the added bonus off a washing machine and tumble dryer(small extra charge)The hosts Jane and Robert are so knowledgeable on the area and make you feel so welcome. The the view of Pen-y-Ghent first thing in the morning is priceless. We can’t wait to return to explore the area more.

Warm welcome

Such a friendly and welcoming site. We had many conversations with Jane and Robert who were happy to recommend attractions in the area including the nearby Ingleborough caves. We also enjoyed the extra facilities, including a chimnea, meaning we had a lovely outdoor dinner, despite the fact the weather was not the usual August warmth! The campsite is ideally situated to climb Pen y Ghent, which we did during our stay. The nearest shops are in Settle, along with a petrol station. Highly recommended and thank you for having us.
