A bit wet

Stopped here for two nights in mid-Oct on the way to the Lakes - £15 per night. There had been and was a great deal of rain so not the best time to visit. The Lodge Caravan Site as it is called comprises two areas. The first is the CL which is enclosed with trees. Each of its 5 marked pitches look inwards and towards an old pump house that has been converted into a well appointed shower toilet block. There is some hard standing and a track running through the CL into a much larger open area of gently sloping cut grass. Here the pitches are unmarked with no hard standing. They appear to be for seasonal use and have fine views of the surrounding countryside and an attractive fishing pond. Both areas are shown in the online description of the CL and have EHUs and a fresh water point. Due to the rain the track running through the CL was muddy and the larger grassed area was too slippery for vehicular use. We didn’t have good TV reception from our omnidirectional aerial. The CL and an adjoining nature reserve are on the site of the Minnie Colliery where 156 men and boys perished following an underground explosion in 1918. More detail on this and the area’s industrial past can be found on line. With only a day to explore we didn’t cover much. The village of Audley can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes where there is an assortment of small shops including two supermarkets. There are footpaths, a disused RW line and the adjoining nature reserve to explore which includes a lake. The area was quiet bar the distant hum of traffic from the M6 which is only a couple of miles away but out of sight.

The perfect stop over

Could not be happier with a client site and it's location. Used this site as a stop over on route to Lake Windermere, not only was the management and owners very nice people they helped me with a power problem I had with the caravan to enable our holiday to continue. The facilities we're very clean and the pitches flat, they have a fishing lake and beautiful scenery surrounding the site area and dog walks. And a cracking fish and chip shop in the village, thanks again for your expert help.

Love this CL site

We have just returned from a nearly three week stay on this great little CL site. The site provides what most club members want. Easy access. Large flat pitches. Hedged for privacy. Easy access to water and emptying out. Rural location. The owners Wendy and Derek told us they have plans to make it even better. The new refurbished central toilet block is housed in a cute little building right in the centre of the lawned site. This has sinks, toilets and two large wet rooms for showering. The adjacent Bateswood Nature Reserve is lovely to walk around with a large lake and plenty of wildlife. The private fishing lake on the site is very picturesque, fenced off for safety and from what we could see was lawned to the waters edge. Great if you like fishing. Lots of things to do in the vicinity and we had a really nice relaxing time. We will definitely be returning.

A little gem

From the warm welcome from Pat & Graham the site managers & Elaine & Roy the owners we had thought we had found our perfect get away. We have not been disappointed. Just back from our 4th visit. The site is immaculate, surrounded by wonderful country views. Each pitch is of a generous size enclosed with trees for privacy. Graham & Pat are always ready with advice & help should you need it. Making sure you have an enjoyable stay. Roy & Elaine take an interest in everyone that visits their site too. A well stoked fishing pool is available in the adjoining field, which my husband thoroughly appreciated. The site is opposite Bateman Nature Reserve also close to Apedale Heritage Centre, & The Wedgewood Visiting Centre Well worth a visit Howard & Miriam

Peaceful & next to nature reserve

We used this as stopover on way north to Lakes. Not too far off motorway but quiet. Fishing lakes and lovely to walk our dog around the lake and nature reserve next door. Would definitely recommend and would use again. No loo block so you need your own facilities.
