The perfect site for peace and quiet

The weather was certainly on our side when we arrived at this site. Easily accessible by the Whitby Road and just a few miles from Pickering, this sun trap provided the perfect place for relaxation, peace and quiet. The site is well placed to conveniently visit areas on the coast or inland. The Fox and Rabbit serves excellent food with good beers. For the few days that we were there we relaxed on site reading, chatting and admiring the bird population that provided free entertainment.

Tranquility in abundance

A nice quiet site, the pitches are a little tight but the space and the picnic bench next to every pitch is very useful. The pub The Fox and Rabbit is absolutely brilliant, the food is excellent the staff are friendly and welcoming, just one thing, if you are going, make sure you book a table as they can be very busy and it would be a crime to stay here without eating!

Peaceful site

just returned from 6 days here. Two field gates to go through to get to the CL. The pitches are all hardstanding but narrow and so the awning was pitched on the grass. This however was probably easier than trying to drive the pegs into the hardcore. The grass around the pitches was mown and collected so no grass clippings to deal with. it is not collected on the large open area in the front of the pitches. The picnic table and umbrella to each pitch was handy. We had a wonderful meal in the pub, if a little expensive. A small discount for members using the site would be a nice touch. We also went on the NY Moors Railway and drove the 3-4 miles to Levisham Station to catch the train. Only £3 to park there. Easier and cheaper than trying to park in Pickering. The site was extremely quiet and very dark on a night so remember a torch for walking back from the pub at night. Good for skywatching though. There are no views of the surrounding landscape as the site is totally surrounded by tall trees, but the site itself is large, open and pleasant.

Lovely retreat

We chose this site due to its proximity to Dalby Forest, as we were at a concert on Saturday evening. We booked Fri to Sun. Check in is made in the Pub itself. If you wish to eat there it is necessary to make a reservation, as it is very popular and busy at all times. The site is very clean, with 5 hardstanding pitches, each has its own picnic table. There is a chemical disposal point and fresh water. Toilets are in the pub if you wish to use them, we used our own facilities. It is convenient for Pickering, the coast or walking and cycling I Dalby Forest. We will ill certainly return. We decided to stay for Sunday lunch, so made our booking and was able to leave the caravan on the site until we had finished. If it was full, there is a field next door which I am sure you will be allowed to leave your unit. A lovely all rounder.

Excellent Site

We decided to visit the Fox & Rabbit for our first caravan holiday, and it was excellent.  We stayed for three nights.  The site has very large pitches and is extremely well kept.  It has electric hook up, a CDP and a drinking water tap.  There are no other facilities except the use of the toilets in the pub itself which wasn’t a problem for us.  We stayed with our two Labradors, and there was plenty of space for exercising them, including a nice walk through woodland direct from the site into Dalby Forest (about 45 minutes each way to the forest).  The path was slightly overgrown in some places, and you couldn’t access it from one of the gates at the bottom of the site, but all other access routes were fine.  The pub staff were very friendly, and the dogs could go inside if required.  We decided to sit outside as the weather was very favourable.  The food was excellent and drinks reasonably priced. The site is perfect for visiting surrounding areas – Pickering, Goathland, Whitby etc.  We will definitely be returning.

What a super site, set back from the road, hard standing and good facilities. The pub was very welcoming and the food was super. We shall definitely visit again.

Fantastic

This is a fantastic site, well maintained, good hard standing pitches. The pub food was brilliant, beer goodand staff very friendly. So good we have booked to go back again. The only problem is that the site is so good that once you have visited, people will want to go back again and again and it will be hard to get a pitch.

Great Place

This is a lovely place to go camping. We were 2 fields back from the main road, so noise wasn't a problem, a very big field and the facilities were in good condition. They've got EHU now as well and you can see they've spent a lot of money on this (it's a long cable) and the fencing etc. The toilet was clean. The pub was fantastic: Really good food, and everyone was so so friendly, staff and customers alike. One couple we were talking to drive regularly from miles away to come for a meal and we could understand why! Some good walking directly from the site too, although muddy in places when we went. We'll be back!

2nd weekend in motorhome

Clean and tidy field set back from road.  To use toilets key has to be obtained from bar and we had to ask to keep it over weekend.  Also it is not in the same field as the CL and is purely one WC.  Although it had rained heavily before arrival it is not a well drained field - the only other people on site were in a motorhome as were we and both of us became stuck in the mud. The people at the pub didn't care and it was left to both motorhome owners to seek the help of a local farmer to tow us out at our cost. A real shame as it could be a really nice site and the pub serves good food.  For information limited mobile signal and no wifi on the site.

Superb location for walking/cycling

This is a tidy flat field in a superb area for walking and cycling with access to Dalby Forest adjacent to the site.  It was great for our 2 active pointers who were also welcome in the pub where we went for a very good meal.  The site is set a decent way back from the main road and we didn't hear much traffic noise other than from the noisy scooters on their way to Whitby for an Easter Bank Holiday event. We will certainly visit again.
