Highland Hideaway

Warm and very helpful welcome from Irene following excellent communication when booking. The most restful stay on our tour. Grass pitches but flat and very spacious field. Plenty of electric allowance - it is monitored but I don't know what we've had needed to do to reach our daily limit (20 units)! Very good value at £15 per night. Very direct access from road but some local traffic rather fast along a narrow lane. Excellent for our visiting purposes. Near to Fochabers - Gordon Castle highland games highly recommended (May) and Christies garden centre for eating and shopping. Two Co-Op-type shops there. Short (5/6 mile drive) to Spey Bay - lovely spot and dolphin-spotting possible. Visitor centre and golf club there with public access bar. Lovely meal at Gordon Castle Hotel. And Lossiemouth worth a visit along the coast. Altogether highly recommended.

A bit ramshackle

A nice enough field with great facilities, EHU, water on the pitch and grey into the hedge. Not much in the way of a view, though. Next door to a pig farm which, to be fair, we didn’t smell at all, but the rest of the property seems to be filled with old farm machinery, derelict caravans, etc. It’s just all a bit ramshackle. Irene is a delight and gave us a warm welcome. Useful if you’re in the area.

Smashing CL Site

Smashing little CL site. Welcomed by Irene, who was able to answers our questions about the locality & went out of her way, to find out & return to us with the answers. Site is ideally suited to a unit with a car, as there are so many lovely places to visit. At £12 a night, it is a real find. Facilities EHU Water CDP

Warm welcoome awaits

Irene is the perfect hostess - could not have been made to feel more welcome. The site is well-kept - close cut grass, numerous bins for recycling/waste, and plenty of space. Great value - too cheap! We will be back!

Best value CL this in this year‘s travel.

Hostess exceptionally welcoming. Best value we have had this year - £11 per night, (not £12 as per website but increasing next year). Facilities similar to most CL sites all perfectly functional. Grass well cut (but left lying). Views pleasant farmland. Hygiene very thorough in this coronavirus time. Convenient for exploring coast and inland attractions. Easy to find, not far off main road but far enough away not to hear it.

A gem of a CL in an incredibly beautiful area

Mrs Laing who runs this site is a lovely host. Great experience booking and welcoming. The site itself is a very well kept and mown field. There are 3 double power points, each with it's own water tap. Excellent waste and recycling facilities and a very good chemical disposal area. The site is located fantastic for touring the local area. The nearby villages of Garmouth and Kingston are well worth a visit, as is the walk across the Spey Viaduct to Spey Bay. The walks around Loch na Bo are outstanding. A good shop can be found in nearby Lhanbryde. Overall, a brilliant experience and I will certainly return to this lovely CL.

A Great CL for visiting the local area

The Bungalow is a great CL for visiting what is an often-missed area of coastal Morayshire. Situated on a minor local road a half mile off the A96 Inverness – Aberdeen road, the site is easy to find and to access. The minor single-track road is fairly straight and there are plenty of passing places so on-coming traffic is not a problem. The satnav postcode will take you a hundred yards or so into the road to the first bungalow, but carry on until the end of the ‘tunnel of trees’ and the site is on the left. Access to the site is directly from the road through a very wide gate that will allow access even to the largest of units with ease. Located in the field in front of the eponymous bungalow, the site is quite flat and carpeted with quite long grass. We did not need to use levelling ramps, which saves time setting up and makes fitting the wheel lock easy. There is plenty of room on the site for manoeuvring into position. There had been considerable rain for days prior to our arrival, indeed we had some substantial showers whilst we were there, however whilst the grass was soaking, the ground was firm and there was no fear of sinking into any mud. There are 3 ehu points on three sides of the field, each ehu point has two plugs and a fresh water tap, grey water disposal is of the ‘empty into the hedge’ type, which makes topping up and emptying out very convenient (no long walks to the service points). Toilet waste disposal in along one of the field boundaries, so no more than 30 yards. Waste is tipped down into what looks like a cesspit which is covered by an upturned bucket, a simple, if somewhat smelly procedure. There is a water tap a few yards away for use when washing out the cassette. There is a collection of recycling bins at the entrance to the site. Whilst there are not spectacular views, the site is pleasantly rural, surrounded by fields and woods. You are far enough from the A96, and shielded by a small hill and woods to eliminate the drone of passing traffic. The minor road has little through traffic to disturb you. Many people drive through the area on route to Aberdeen or Fraserburgh, missing the delights of this corner of the Morayshire coast. The historic town of Elgin is just 5 miles away, with its medieval street plan, shops, supermarkets, and restaurants. There is the Moray Motor Museum and the magnificent Elgin Cathedral. It is also well worth the walk up to the Duke of Gordon’s monument on Lady Hill, the site of a former medieval castle, for the panoramic view of Elgin. Well worth visiting in the coastal town of Lossiemouth, home to one of the RAF’s Typhoon fighter squadrons, and a bustling marina. Further along the coast are is the nature reserve at Spey Bay, the little harbour at Hopeman and the busy fishing port of Buckie (plenty of fresh fish for sale). So, here you have a basic CL at a very reasonable per night cost, in a great area to visit. The ultimate test – would we return? Yes.

Great little site

I'd used this site some 8 or 9 years ago on my last visit to the area. This time I booked a CL closer to Elgin (Wood Park Farm) for convenience but on arrival found it full, overbooked. A quick call here, and was welcomed by Mrs Laing. The CL is spacious and easy to access. A quiet location.
