We picked this site to break a journey but liked it soo much we intend to return. We had a peaceful couple of days and the photographic possibilities were endless. Sitting in the Inn talking to the boat owners was a delight, as were the owners of the site. The field was spacious and quiet with easy access to local amenities.
Lovely little site
What a great place. Considering how bad the weather has been and how wet the field was, Elaine went out of her way to make it possible for us to pitch our caravan. We had such a wonderful welcome from Elaine and the Anchor Inn is the most amazing pub. The location alongside the canal is great for walking our two dogs and the site is so peaceful with views of the lovely countryside. At £25 a night it is a little bit expensive but worth it for the experience. Will definitely be going back.

Wonderful CL
Wonderful CL in lovely peaceful setting beside the picturesque Shropshire Union Canal. The Anchor Inn pub is an old fashioned gem next door to the camping fields.
The hostess Elaine owns both the pub and the CL. We can’t praise her highly enough, very friendly and helpful. Been coming here for 42 years on and off. Her parents Graham and Olive (sadly no longer with us) would be immensely proud of her for continuing to run the place as they would have wished.
Thanks for your hospitality Elaine and we’ll see you soon.

Lovely little CL
Stayed just one night to break journey on a long haul to Scotland. Very handy as not far from M6. Immaculate lawned site. Only very slightly sloping and leveling blocks quicky fixed that. No noise despite being next to pub. Owners very welcoming. Friendly little pub but absoutely tiny inside. No food but there really wouldnt really be room to serve any! Took dogs on pleasant walk along adjoining canal tow path. Would definitely revisit.
Not for us
other than the large open field to set up on i really can't find anything good to say.
the peace and quiet people talk about was no existent due to the owners dogs continually barking. although when loose were friendly and quiet.
I found the owners distant and standoffish. getting any information from them was like pulling teeth. the recycling area was full and over flowing as if it had not been cleared in weeks.
The pub although quaint and old fashioned at first, soon rub's off and becomes small and run down. the beer garden is well kept and pretty (sorry that 2 good things).
it has been ticked off but we will not be returning as there are cheaper sites out there with better welcomes and better kept facilities for less money.
Amazingly peaceful
We had a very warm welcome with choices of where to pitch.
There are two sites here. The CL which is grass and at the back, separate, a "private" site of about 7 hard standing pitches.
Both fields slope, the rear site more so, although it probably has more "flat" pitches. All pitches, both fields, have electric points.
We were on the CL as the grass was dry & firm.
Despite the slight slope we managed to find a patch (by not going right up to the hedge, that was flat and we didnt need levelling ramps.
There is a very tall hedge along one side, which provided some nice shade for a lot of the day.
Water tap was easy to access for the van. Grey water goes into the hedge.
You cant see the canal from the site (either one) but the tow path is literally just through the beer garden, and you can watch the barges from the beer garden. Walk for as long as you want along the tow path in either direction.
The pub, while we were there, was open from 12 noon at the weekend, and from 7pm during the week.
It was quite busy on the Sunday afternoon, but not noisy.
The rest of the time the site was just incredibly peaceful. We went for a couple of short walks up the canal, and had a drink at the pub, but didnt move from the site. We had gone to chill out, and that's what we did. It was absolutely great.
We tend not to re-visit sites, but if this site was nearer to home, I think we would be regulars!

Anchor inn
We spent 3 nights at the Anchor Inn CL site
The location is very quite . The welcome was very friendly
Some reviews have mentioned the lane being narrow , it's a country lane with passing places and we experienced no problems at all
Even though our caravan is 7.24 mtrs long plus our tow car being one of the longest and widest estates on the market
The amineties are basic but clean and the nesting swollows just add to the charm and charature of this CL site
We popped in the pub on the Friday and Saturday nights of our stay and where made to feel very welcome on both occasions
So much so we have booked for the jubilee Bank Holiday weekend
Elaine thank you so much

All along the back waters
A charming well-kept site with a quaint pub serving real ale.
Lots to see, a great walk along the canal to Norbury Junction to the canal festival.
As has been previously mentioned, the road is narrow, however, there are passing places, which could prove tricky for some. We had no problems either arriving or leaving.
Nearby Eccleshall is lovely with independent local shops, great pubs and the Indian takeaway was probably one of the best we’ve tasted.
All in all, good value for those seeking peace and tranquility.
Secret Charming Hideaway
We booked this site because we were visiting relations in the neighbouring village so it was a convenient location. The lanes around here are all narrow so its interesting towing a caravan and I was pleased ours was small and the driver adept at reversing when required.
The site was all ready for us, freshly mown and we could choose where to pitch. Fresh drinking water point easy to find and a slightly deeper search identified the sewage disposal point, once again easy to reach. No other facilities on site and we were charged £15.00 which seemed a bit steep compared to other very well equipped sites we have stayed on around the country.
The canal on the edge of the site provided a wonderful walking experience and we were impressed with how busy it was. We didn't have time to explore other footpaths as we were only there for one night.
We would be happy to stay here again.
almost didnt visit !!
looked at this site a few times but we were put off by the review saying how stressfull the drive there was ! however we were looking for a site on a canalside and this one kept coming up ..... so we decided to give it a go and booked a weekend here ! sooooo glad we did beautiful site, well kept and very friendly had a great weekend the approach was down some country lanes but well worth the trip :-) lovely walk down the canal to norberry junction spent the afternoon there just people watching .so relaxing . steady walk back to the anchor a group of musicians had met up there for the weekend some in barges some in caravans so entertainment was provided by them !! great, atmosphere lovely site, will definitely return
