The site is on a pleasant working farm with a nice lake to the side. The field was well cut and level and in good condition. We had booked and paid some months ago so during our 3 nights we did not see the site owners which was not a problem but simple signs showing which house to enquire at, which refuse bin to use and where the chemical toilet disposal point is would have been handy.
Two to three pubs are within a mile and half. The filling station within 3 minutes walk sells newspapers and milk etc and the adjacent Little Chef and Burger King may be useful to some. A mile down the road towards York is a McDonalds and chip shop accessible by a bridge.
Bus stop for York is at the site entrance but you have to return via Tadcaster and possibly change buses to come back up the A64 towards York as the busy A64 dual carriageway is more like a motorway and too dangerous to cross.
The site is very pleasant and the fee is very low so nobody can complain and it is ideal for an overnight stop. However the continual loud traffic noise from the busy A64 alongside the site does not make it a quite site.
We stayed in April so used the fishing lake car park (hard standing) the large grass field was soft. Good location and friendly owners. Good for cyclist, the cycle path goes past the gate. Cycle to the start of the universe! (the Sun), left to York or straight on through the universe to Selby. Good for dog walking lots of local bridalways and foot paths. Highly recommended for those who like to caravan off grid.
Will be staying again.

We loved our stay here. Welcoming owners. Large tidy field, fairly flat with grass cut. Dog walks from the field (to local village with lovely pub). TV signal/Phone signal good. Indian food (gorgeous by the way), Fish and Chips and other fast food within 5 minutes drive. Burger King can be walked too in a couple of minutes (I know it's not the best food but handy if you cannot be bothered to cook or drive). Welcome sheet with detailed local information. Park and Ride for York and local designer shopping outfit 5-10 mins drive. This site is next to the A64 which is a busy road. Therefore, whilst there was some road noise I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't more road noise than there actully was. For us we thought the hedge blocked the noise really well and the lovely site and reasonable price certainly made up for the little bit of noise. One tip. When turning left off the A64 you need to slow right down and I think cars expect that you are going to pull into the services about 75m further on. Therefore I would advise before you turn to put on your hazard lights.
