Great site - surrounding area a bit disappointing
We chose this site on the strength of good reviews and the fact that it was within walking distance of Hornsea which we had never been to before and fancied going somewhere different. The site lived up to what previous reviews said but we were a bit disappointed with the area. We walked into the centre of Hornsea one day and whilst the walk was quite pleasant, partly over fields and partly along the beach, the town centre seemed a bit run down; we could not even find anywhere that sold postcards ! Also, although the beach is not all that far away from the site as the crow flies, getting down to it was not direct, involving walking along the path opposite the site and then turning right and walking almost into the centre of Hornsea or a shorter route after turning left but involving a very difficult descent over boulders at the back of the boat yard. However, if you can manage to get over the boulders, you are rewarded with an almost deserted sandy beach.
The site itself is a gem. All grass and normally, as we have a motorhome, we stick to sites with hardstandings but we took a chance with this one and had no problems getting in or out even though there was quite a few showers before and during our stay. The site is spacious with water taps and picnic benches set out around the site, one for each unit and you can pick exactly where you want place your unit - no fussy rules. Adjacent to the site are two fishing ponds which are fenced off from the site but there are mown grass paths around them which make for quite a good dog walk. Some previous reviews have referred to traffic noise. It is certainly noticeable if you listen for it but we found that it did not intrude and we just forgot about it. Overall, the site is well worth a visit and probably best if used as a base for visiting the wider area.
