A lovely Gem

We stayed at this site mid June then returned for 'Le Tour.' Mr & Mrs Smith were very welcoming on both occasions. The site is lovely with stunning views. The toilet/shower facilities are 2nd to none & kept exceptionally clean (some of the CL sites we've stayed at have facilities that are more suited to the 19th century.) During the weekend of Le Tour the site was, understandably, extremely busy but the owners found time to chat to the visitors ensuring that all had a pleasant stay. The area is stunning, we would highly recommend the food (and views) at the Queens Head - just a short stroll from the site. We will certainly be back - Blu (our black lab) is already missing her two friends,Meg  Flossie!

Busy but good

If you are looking for a quiet CL be warned that this one takes more than 5 units. The site is spacious enough to cope but more activity is inevitable and peace is not guaranteed. We stayed for a week and there were never less than 8 units. Visitors also using the cottages which overlook the camping area. The location is great if you are exploring the dales with plenty of walking and beautiful scenery. The owners were friendly and had plenty of information available. I would recommend with reservation and think members should be aware of the nature of this site.

Best Site EVER

We have just returned from a fab 22 nights at this site. We only booked for 14 but wanted to stay because it is just fantastic. We have 2 boys 2 and 5 who absolutely loved watching the trains AND tractors that you get to see on this site. Mr and Mrs Smith are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The field has amazing views for about 30 miles as you can see the north York moors to the east. Toilets and showers are clean and modern, a well stocked information room too. Needless to say we will return next year.

Superb site in exceptional location

We have just had a few days in our motor-home at Spruce Gill and would not hesitate to recommend. Terrific location with walking, cycling, bus service and even the steam railway for access to the beautiful northern dales. Views were spectacular. Hosts were very friendly. Facilities were excellent. We shall return.

August 2013

Fab site, Lots of walks in surrounding area. Site very well kept, showers toilets immaculate. Over occupied (8 caravans at times) although because of room on site this wasn't a problem. 1 shower 2 toilets. Views from site fantastic. Noise confined to sheep 1/2 mile away not a bad thing and train horn No trains before 10:00 or after 19:00 then only about 10 times a day. all in all very quiet. strong TV signal, We found 3G on EE and O2 but only normal signal on Vodafone. Pub easy walking distance. Fantastic food although pricey, good quality and quantity. Nearest shop 2 miles although I hear you can order papers from post office less than 1/2 mile. Information on site excellent Would I visit again DEFINITELY and great value

Great cl

I've given 5 ticks in all categories, because this cl really does deserve them! We will definately be going back as it's an ideal base for a few days of exploring the area, whether using the train service to Leyburn or Bedale, or using the car to go further afield. Great pub in the village too, top stuff.

Fantastic

I would just like to say thanks very much for a great weekend. Plenty of room on site. 2 toilets/1 shower - we had no problems.. We didn't have to queue like commercial site. A great site. Train station just down the hill so no need to get in your car.. We will definitely be back.

Great site but be aware of overcrowding !

This site is lovely BUT you are at times overcrowded by more than the 5 permitted vans particularly in the one field (as there are two !). During our stay we found the site was accomodating up to 10 vans which made the facilities of one shower and two toilets inadequate !
