Struck gold in the Peak District
We have just returned from a fantastic 2-week break at Splash Farm. We booked it on the strength of the other reviews and we were not disappointed. The sat nav leaves you just short of the site if you use the postcode, but as long as you print out the directions you will have no problem getting here. It is situated next to the John Smedley textile factory (it shares the approach road with it), but don't let this put you off as you cannot hear or see anything once you are on site. You are greeted with a welcome note telling you where to pitch. Each pitch is all-weather and comes with a Freesat connection (£1 a night) as TV reception is not very good.
Situated just outside Matlock and Matlock Bath all areas of the Peak District are within a 45-minute car journey, with Ashbourne, Buxton and Bakewell the easiest to get to. It is a dog walker's heaven as there are so many walks close by to the site and many more just a short car journey away - we went walking every day and never did the same walk twice.
There are no real shops within walking distance, but there is a big Sainsbury's in Matlock which we used. I can also recommend Maazi Indian restaurant in Matlock. We had a superb takeaway at a very reasonable price.
Mick and Theresa, the owners, are extremely helpful and a wealth of local knowledge if you need any advice. This site was featured in this month's magazine and the number of CC members who we saw come by to check it out was amazing. I will definitely try and stay here again when we come back to the Peak District
