This was our first booking with the caravan club and we were extremely pleased with this site it offered all we wanted - peace and quiet, local areas of interest, lovely walks and a pub within walking distance - Eyam one mile and Foolow half a mile (no footpath to Foolow but the road was fairly quiet). We were welcomed when we arrived and told to choose a pitch with the offer of extra cables if we needed them. Field was slightly sloping but we did not find this a problem at all. We would definitely book again.
We absolutely loved this spot and were luck enough to get a last minute spot for two nights
This lovely soft grassy field is right next to the farm right back from the road up a Tarmac drive. Mrs Elliot was out when we arrived but we helped ourselves. she was very nice and chilled. The weather was scorching and the scenery beautiful. The farm is a busy working farm which we liked to see. We walked into Eyam, about a mile, there is a narrow footpath along the not too busy road and walked back over the fields on the footpath to Foolam. We visited the National Trust house in Eylam and there is also a museum. We had a great lunch in the tea shop/bakery near the pub, really natural delicious food and plenty. Some lovely campers in a caravan on our site offered to take our shopping back in their cool box and car which was brilliant as it was about 28 degrees C which is melting point for carrot cake icing!
I can see that in wet weather this site would be a disaster for a motorhome. We had one of only two spots just inside the gate which were sort of llevel, we still needed the wooden chocs provided as well as our own! I can also see what the other reviewer meant regarding leaving time as the caravan next to us left at about 8pm!
We would definitely return but only if dry weather or a spot just inside the gate was guaranteed.
Disappointed
After reading the previous reviews, we were really looking forward to our stay on this CL. However, it clearly states this site has hard standings, and there are none. We have a 3.5 tonne motorhome, as the site is all sloping and on grass we got stuck and had to be towed out by the tractor. The top of the site is faily level, but we would still have needed to go up on the ramps and this wasn't possible as we couldn't get traction on the grass. We would definitely NOT recommend it for motorhomes if it's even slightly wet. Luckily we found a pitch at Castleton to spend the weekend.
A week in Derbshire
Stayed here for a week at the beginning of September 2012. I was advised by the owner to arrive after 1pm which we duly did. However we could not pitch up as the owner Mrs Elliott does not believe in rushing people off, so we were provided with a cup of tea with and by Mrs Elliott in her front garden overlooking the beautioful Derbyshire hills. After about an hour we were invited to go onto the site and pick any position which we wanted, and by that I mean we were allowed to position the caravan at any angle we wanted. We chose a position with the main lounge window overlooking the countryside whilst others had parked sideways on.Extra cables were provided to ensure the electric reached. The site is sloping both ways and we required wheel blocks, some of which were supplied. The site is set well back from the road, which is onl;y a minor road anway, and has sheep and cattle on the farm. The only noise was from the farm vehicles.
The site is about 1 mile from Eyam, whichj is a beautiful village where they suffered from same Bubonic plague as London In 1665.Nearest pub about half a mile. Bulls head at Foolow. Steak night Tuesday, 2 rumps for £11.00.
It is close to Chatsworth ,Bakewell, Castleton, Hathersage, Hope, Edale, Baslow and Matlock. We had great weather which certainly helped and had a fantastic time. Would certainly return. Cost £11.00 night with EHU.
