Ease of arrival/welcome

A little of an oddity...

We booked this CL as a convenient location in which to base ourselves for an activity in Leeds on the Sunday and it fulfilled our need in that respect. It's just 10 miles or so from Leeds so quite convenient. The Asda at the end of the road was great for shopping and (bonus) cheap fuel. The site itself was a little odd and, while wanting to be fair to the site, I want to be honest with those that may be looking for a site in the future. This is not an idyllic country site despite its canal-side location! It is in an industrial area of Dewsbury and has LGVs passing fairly frequently - saying that you barely notice them passing. You do hear a lot of cars going past the site and there is a drain or metal cover somewhere that clangs when vehicles pass over it. We arrived at around 2 on a sunny Saturday afternoon and the pub was in full swing with live music outside. The music was extremely loud but, not wishing to be party poopers, we thought we'd try the pub and its entertainment out and make a judgement based on our stay not one, potentially, isolated afternoon. The pub food was reasonable and we benefitted from a 10% discount on food and beer using our electronic voucher from the site. The live music continued until around 5 when it switched to recorded music at a slightly (and it was only slightly) lower volume. The music continued throughout the evening until around 9 and then, fortunately, we heard very little for the rest of the night. The Sunday was pretty much the same, with the obligatory music being recorded and not live, but again this didn't continue too late into the night. We never saw the site owner when we arrived, fortunately a boat owner pointed out the facilities for us. The site isn't the tidiest and there was some dog poo around the site (there were three dogs wandering around the site at times, though the owners tended to call them back when they realized that they were exploring). The central access track to the well-travelled pitches was rutted and muddy, our car and caravan was covered in mud when we left on the Monday. When leaving the site it quickly became apparent that the gravel from the pitch had adhered to the mud on our tyres and we were faced with gravel being thrown towards the caravan while traveling up the road. Someone has mentioned not using the exit to leave the site, this exit is too steep and you will ground part of your caravan if you try to use it. Use the entrance and you will be fine, though visibility isn't great when leaving from this gate. Overall, not the best site we've visited, but not the worst either. I don't think we'll return unless we have another event to attend in Leeds and, even then, I will look for alternates first.
