Rosewood Farm - peaceful site

This is our 4th stay at this site. Lovely and peaceful with views across to the lake and valley. Quite a few National Trust properties nearby and easy drive to Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne. We use it for visiting family but word of warning - roads to access the site are not easy with a caravan and neither is the access. The site itself is terraced and would not suit anyone with physical disabilities as the access road is very steep. However the pitches have paving stones that are level. It is a lovely part of East Sussex.

Early Spring Hidden Gem

We had a lovely overnighter in our camper van, having booked pretty much last minute as the weather looked promising. There was a friendly welcome from the Knight family and Gyp (the family's dog), with encouragement to walk around the lake, which had several seats, and the undulating woodland, and we took full advantage of both. (The huge carp in the lake were amazing, taking dog biscuits from our fingers!). The view from our elevated hardstanding pitch was fantastic. We saw a buzzard and heard owls. We look forward to a return visit, perhaps when the bluebells are out. Heathfield is a short drive away and must be one of the few places where there are several council run car parks which are free! Its a nice place to wander through, with a variety of independent shops, cafes and supermarkets.

Access to pitch

Very steep downhill to pitch. Not suitable for physically disabled as you have to leave your car on car park at top of hill. Didn't like having to take non recycled rubbish home after one week. Would suggest only suitable for 4 wheel drive vehicle as vacating could be a problem. Beautiful views and surroundings on quiet peaceful site. The woodland and lakeside walks were enjoyed by us and our little dog.

First Outing in Our Motorhome

We chose this site as it wasn't too far from our home and it was our first outing so wanted to make sure everything worked. The walks around the lakes and woods are beautiful even in the winter, our two pointers had a great time., we found it was very peaceful and we didn't hear noise from the traffic. The owners were unobtrusive and friendly. Yes there is a slope down to the hard standing but if two newbies can do it then it's no problem, we had no difficulty at all, the only problem I can see is if there is another motorhome next door only one has the view of the beautiful lake and you would be very close to the neighbouring motorhome but in my opinion still worth a visit.

A nice place to stay

Nice views of the surrounding woodland from the pitches.  The owner was very pleasant and helpful in an unobtrusive manner.  A good value CL with lots of nice places nearby.

Great view

A very pleasant location with great views down to the fishing lake and beyond.  The Owner is helpful and seemed only to appear when needed.  The site is quite steep with terraces cut into the slope for the grass pitches.  The hard standing pitches, of which there are two, are at the top although still approached down a steep gradient.  No awnings are permitted on the hard standings, due, self evidently, because there is no space when two units are parked up.  The first van to arrive on the hard standing will be blocked in by the second.  Some road noise but not really a nuisance.  The electric supply is 6A which is quite low but sufficient if you're careful.  A good spot to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside, Bewl water, Rudyard Kipling's house etc.  No shortage of good pubs for Sunday lunch.  We enjoyed our stay.

So peaceful and the dog loved it!

Having read the previous review I would agree with some comments and disgree with others. Yes, follow the instructions and approach from Heathfield end of Newick Lane. We didn't have any problems with the approach which is steep but not insurmountable. Also did not find the signs at all sarcastic but just the mark of someone who cares for their site. The site is beautifully located with fantastic views and direct access to some very good dog walks. It is really peaceful. Perfect for a nice quiet weekend but was also able to get good TV reception and 4G access - perfect!!

Nice site - but take note!

First of all, make sure you approach the site from the correct end of the road! – follow the instructions in the club book. The site entrance has a large raised planter in the middle of the drive, which you will hit, if you’re not careful. The site is protected by a set of wooden gates, once you go through these, you then have to keep left and head down a VERY steep slope to your pitch. If you don’t think your brakes will hold out, the owner can position it for you. The views and the walks around the grounds, woods and lake are great; however, I wouldn’t stay here again. There are so many rules and regulations that you have to stick to. You can’t drive on the grass – well, you have too, otherwise you can’t get on the pitch, you are not allowed to park your car next to the caravan – you have to park it at the top of the hill. Any rubbish other than tins, paper, card and bottles, must be taken home with you or you have to visit the local council rubbish tip. This includes dog waste – There are no bins for general rubbish which isn’t recyclable. I have never been on a site where you have to visit the local tip to dump your rubbish! I must also point out the signs that have been installed are rather sarcastic regarding the waste. Despite there being slabs on the pitches, they are not level. If you are asked, make sure you pick the hard standing pitch – It’s at the top of the slope and looks level

PEACE AND QUIET IN SUSSEX

OUR FIRST TRIP TO THIS CL WHERE WE WERE MET ON ARRIVAL BY GRAHAM THE OWNER. THE PROPERTY IS BEHIND SOLID GATES SO DOESN'T LOOK ESPECIALLY INVITING, BUT THEY OPEN UP ONTO A WELL KEPT PADDOCK WITH WONDERFUL VIEWS OVER THE FISHING LAKE AND SURROUNDING WOODLAND. THE DRIVEWAY UP TO THE GATES ISN'T THAT LONG, SO LONGER OUTFITS MAY STICK OUT INTO THE ROAD WHILE THE GATES ARE OPENED UP. OF COURSE THE GATES MEAN SECURITY WHILE OUT WITH VANS HIDDEN FROM THE ROAD. THE AREA IS SLOPING BUT GRAHAM HAS LEVELLED THE PITCHES AND EVEN INSTALLED HARD PADS FOR THE TYRES SO ONCE THE VANS SITED ON THEM YOU KNOW IT'LL BE LEVEL. HE'S AT HAND TO TOW PEOPLE OFF SHOULD THEY NEED IT AND DOES REQUIRE CARS TO BE PARKED AWAY FROM THE GRASS PITCHES IN A PARKING AREA. THE SITE IS CLOSE TO NT PROPERTIES, INCLUDING BATEMANS AND WAKEHURST PLACE, BUT THE JEWEL HERE ARE THE MILES OF OPEN WALKING IN NEARBY ASHDOWN FOREST, ABOUT 20 MINS DRIVE AWAY. THERE IS A 2-1 PUB DOWN THE LANE, WE DIDN'T TRY IT BUT KNOW THE CHAIN PROVIDES VALUE FOR MONEY. HEATHFIELD IS 5 MINUTES BY CAR AND HAS AMPLE SHOPS PLUS A VERY GOOD BUTCHER AND GREENGROCER. WE HAVE 2 DOGS AND WOULD RATE THIS SITE VERY HIGHLY FOR DOG LOVERS. THE PROPERTY IS PART OF A LARGE WOODLAND WITH FISHING LAKES WHERE YOU ARE WELCOME TO SIT AND WATCH THE FISH FEEDING ON BREAD. THIS WOODLAND ADJOINS AN EVEN LARGER WOODED AREA WHICH IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND KEEPS THE MUTTS HAPPY FOR HOURS. THE SITE HAS A STRICT RECYCLING POLICY THAT CATERS FOR MOST WASTE, BUT NOT FOR THINGS LIKE DOG WASTE OR PLASTIC OTHER THAN PLASTIC BOTTLES. THAT IS A PAIN AND REQUIRES A TRIP TO THE NEARBY TIP OR APPROPRIATE BINS. GREY WASTE SIMPLY GOES IN HEDGES. THIS SITE IS VERY PEACEFUL AND QUIET AND I'D RECOMMEND IT FOR VISITING THIS PART OF BEAUTIFUL SUSSEX.
