Suited Our Needs Perfectly

Booking the site was very straightforward with instructions to phone Keith, the owner, when we were about half an hour away and he would ensure the gates were open. This we did and he was there to greet us and show us where everything was. Given the time of year, we were on the hard standing area with a fully serviced pitch (water and waste). However, the grass area is large and level with plenty of space to spread out (when in operation). We were given a fob to operate the electric gates and as we were were the only ones on the CL, it gave us a feeling of security. There is no separate pedestrian access through the gates but I did find a stile in the corner of the field which gives access to the lane. Plenty of walking from the site - about an hour to climb up to the Hardy monument - well worth it for the views. Mown dog walk around the edge of the field. Recycling on site, eggs for sale, good signal for EE and TV. Cost for us was £20 a night which we were happy to pay and we will definitely return.

Very pleasant CL for the most part after some initial problems

Access to the site is pretty good, entailing just a short drive along a narrow lane from the B road. My initial impressions were not that good, as there was a locked gate and no obvious way to open it. Fortunately, there was another visitor to the site who let me in. This required a fob. Then I was slightly disappointed to find that the very large grassy field was closed due to it being waterlogged, leaving only a rather ugly hard standing area, which appeared to be full with no obvious space for me to go. This was not helped, as one of the visitors had parked sideways taking up an unreasonable amount of space. I managed to contact the friendly owner Keith, who came along to sort things out and I ended up squeezed between a car and the aforesaid motorhome, with not enough space to put up my small awning. To be fair Keith did offer to ask the motorhome owner to move his unit to a more sensible position. However, it transpired that he was going to leave the next day, so I accepted the situation for the one night. Once he had left the space became much more acceptable and I hastily put up my awning before anyone else arrived! For the remainder of my stay I had no issues with excessive proximity of neighbours, so I was probably just unlucky on arrival. All other aspects of the site are fine. It was particularly beneficial to have a fully serviced pitch, thereby avoiding the usual humping around of water and waste containers. Given this, the £20 pitch fee was very reasonable. The EHU is also 16 Amps, so no worries about tripping the circuitry. The site is also very secure with access only via the locked gate mentioned earlier, even if you are a pedestrian or cyclist. You are issued with a fob on or shortly after arrival. The area is also excellent for outdoor activities, especially for cycling as there are numerous very quiet lanes and cycle tracks. It is an easy ride to Weymouth and even Portland with almost no need to go on any busy roads. I didn't walk anywhere directly from the sight but there are superb walks in the area, many just a short drive from the site. There is also the famous swannery, although it was very expensive to go in (so I didn't) and the cafe there is egregiously overpriced. Portesham and Abbotsbury are attractive nearby villages and there is an excellent farm shop in Portesham. Would I go back? Yes, undoubtedly if the opportunity arose, especially as it open all year round, for the hard standing area at least.

1st time on this site but hopefully not the last.

Stayed here after deciding I didn't want to go home! No regrets at all with this site. Electric gates for entry/exit for added security. Good sized pitches and all level. I stayed on a grass pitch and had no problems. Met by Keith on arrival who was very welcoming. A good experience and I hope to return to this site. Wonderful.

Excellent site

We have stayed on this site 4 times this year and would thoroughly recommend a visit. We thank the whole family (and chickens) for looking after us so well. We have felt welcome and enjoyed each stay immensely. The camp facilities cover all caravan needs easily and without fuss. If there is a problem, the owner is on site and will assist in any way possible. On arrival the owner welcomed us following all Covid rules. The site facilities were explained and we were left in peace to choose our pitch and set up. The field is flat and large so we were able to pitch away from all other caravans giving us complete privacy. The site is extremely well cared for. The grass is mown regularly with the cuttings being removed. The chemical toilet emptying facility is superb. No hole in the ground with a stone over it! The approach to the field is long and solid giving good safe access. There is a dog walk around a meadow with special dustbin for disposal. One huge bonus is the security. You are issued with a fob to an electric gate which is closed at all times. The site is situated within easy access to towns and shops. Within a short drive there are well stocked supermarkets without the need to go larger towns. Also very useful, is the caravan accessory shop situated within a large caravan park within a few miles.

Not as it was

Our 3rd visit to this site and many positives as mentioned below from other caravanners. Keith met us on arrival and as always was friendly and helpful. We were the 5th van on site and during our stay there were never any more than 5 . . . . . on the grass cl. However, the new hard standing area which is, apparently, not part of the cl adjoins the cl with just a small grass boundary between the 2 areas meaning that our van was close to those using the hard standing. This may not bother some but we don’t do ‘back to back’ and look for a tad more privacy hence us using larger cl’s. The new pitches could have been situated on the far side of the hard standing which would have been so much better by offering more free space between the two areas. So, 5 units on the cl, 3 units on the adjoining hard standing, and 2 units on the grass on the other side of the hard standing. For us Keith has spoilt the grass cl by placing other pitches so close to it. Yes if not fully booked then you have the choice to pitch further away but that’s not always possible. I think that unfortunately we may have to consider whether we would return or not.

Wonderful place

We cannot state how lovely this site is the owners Keith, Paula and their son Tom are always there to help nothing too much trouble, fresh eggs from their own chickens the money goes to a local hospital, The bins are clearly mark as the Elsan waste is nicely covered not just an awful hole that we have experienced in other sites, fresh drinking water on tap, stunning views, on a beautifully cut lawn, yes you can here traffic but only a whoosh noise in the background, the birds singing all day makes up for it, perfect with electric gates too, feel very secure here plenty of room to drive your caravan through, only poor driving through these gates would cause damage to ones caravan. We are here on a regular basis and not once have we had any negativity

Photos here don’t do this justice!

The photos here are of the grassed area and its entrance but the owner has just installed a new massive gravel hard standing with individual water, drainage and electric - this is first class! Site very secure as protected by security gates and a well kept tarmac drive. Great views from the site and plenty of places to walk the dog. Generally very quite but some road noise in the day but you can’t here it in the van and was no problem at all. Quite a good location to access local areas and shops- a 5min drive. Really enjoyed it and we would certainly return! I suppose the only comment would be the hard standing literally backs on to another grass pitching area (used in dry weather) holding 5+ vans and the owner then has another couple of vans on another private area. This wouldn’t bother us at all BUT it would bother some so perhaps this should be made clear on this advert so people have that choice?? Indeed the price here increased in the visit to near £20 per night. Still reasonable value for the area but just the fact we weren’t told at booking.

Fred the caravanner

A flat level large site and ample space, clean and well set out. Good location shame about the continuous traffic noise from the B3157 road to Weymouth especially at the weekend when the motor bikes were out in force. Beware those with motor movers - the metal gate stop to the fancy electricity entrance gates took out our motor movers requiring expensive replacement! We were surprised on arrival to find 5 caravans on site and during our week two more arrived to be sited just off main site area but using the CL waste facilities. With the "hostesses" van there were 8 in all, all occupied, on the Farm area. Pity really. We will not be returning as we cannot afford to sustain more expensive damage to the underside of the van.
