Peaceful Perfect Site

What a perfect site. A warm welcome by owner and given a sheet with information and places of interest.A large estate with pitches set in 2 areas. The official C/L site being large and flat, close to the historic house and chapel. A further large overflow site is set next to paddocks of horses and ponies. We were given the choice and chose the large overflow site. Absolute peace and quiet. We even enjoyed the gymkhana shows that took place. Outdoor swimming pool available during summer season. River walks direct from the site. Many places of interest within easy reach by car. We stayed with our two dogs for 4 nights and will be returning.

The best CL site

Visited for 3 nights 18th June and we were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming owner, we stayed on the overspill site as CL was full and it was great, I would request the same pitch again, the site is very well kept and house and gardens are lovely, the pool is fantastic and was nice and warm. There is also a lawn tennis court. Amazing place especially if you like horses as the caravans are based around or near a show jumping Arena.  Will be visiting again

A Splashing Good Time!

Warm welcome from Major Gordon, who gave print- outs giving details of both the estate & the local area. Just take care for the final mile on the private road as it's single track with passing places. Had a ring-side seat on Wednesday evening at the weekly horse jumping competition, as pitched by the arena. A bonus on this cl is the heated swimming pool, which i used a couple of times. Some good round walks from the site, both wooded & river side. Also used the newly opened Park & Ride into York which is only 5ml away, & parking is free! Found Red House an excellent site with plenty of interest, though the ground may be soft after prolonged rain for heavy motor homes as only small area of hard standing. We will certainly return.

Very Much Recommended

We have just returned from a long weekend at Red House and it was wonderful. Perfect directions, as we had to call to be sure we were on the correct road.  A fabulous welcome was given and an exceptional welcome pack to show us not only the site but surrounding areas.  Not only was it local to York and Harrogate but peaceful enough to just enjoy the surroundings. I am sure the place must be fabulous when it has events on. Hidden gem has to be the church on site, absolutely stunning. A must see. We shall most definitely be back.

Excellent with loads of room for the kids. A short walk takes you down to the river and you can walk for miles from there. If I'm down that way again this is where I'll be staying

Beautiful

We have just returned from a 3 night stay here and wasn't disappointed. The place is lovely. Very clearly signed on arrival and a warm greeting from Major Gordon. He explained where to pitch up and briefly explained what was where and then left us to get on with it. It is a very spacious field, and flat too. As it is a working riding school we was able to watch the girls horse jumping which was nice too. Its only 20 mins drive tops into York and there is the option of a park and ride too. The toilet block was a bit of a walk but to be honest it wasn't a problem. We will definitely be returning

A great site!

What a lovely site! Easy to find, helpful and friendly owner, well kept and plenty of room. The horses are a real bonus and any horse lover will love this site. The use of a swimming pool was great too. We stayed four nights and went swimming every day. Super for the children. We will return!

Shangri La or Valhala ?

Just returned from a two night stay at the Red House along with my Wife and Grandaughter. Suffice to say that we go along with all the positive reviews this site has received. It is a gem ! We will most certainly return in the not too distant future. I spent an hour or so in the pool with my Grandaughter, it ended with my pleading to come out as my fingers (and probably other bits) were getting wrinkley. I have to say the one contra review left me wondering if they visited the same C/L ?

Visit to Red House

Having just returned from a six night stay at Red House. We can only say what a wonderful CL this is,from the friendly welcome to the excellent facilities, large level pitches with top notch electric hook ups.Ideal for a visit to either York or Harrogate, yet so peaceful with an away from it all feel. When we enquired about a game of tennis, rackets and balls were kindly provided, nothing was too much trouble and a willingness to please was always in evidence. The horse jumping on the Wednesday night was marvellous entertainment. All in all we would recommend anyone to stay at this lovely site,we shall certainly be returning.

Not what we expected.

This site was not what we expected, first of all on leaving the A59 turning onto Church Lane there is a narrow two lane road for half a mile, after that your on a narrow lane for approx one and half mile with passing places that look suitable for cars only, and the grass verges are sloping with ditches, no way could two caravans pass along this road. To add to this, the owners have not set rules as to when you can arrive or leave, so that gives rise to a good chance of meeting fellow caravaners along this access road ! The owners were friendly, only saw them when I paid at reception, and as it's also their home I wont comment on that. We set up next to the paddocks on a good sized pitch as all were, with plenty of room for the kids to play way from others. The toilets are approx 300 yds away, and are the worst I've seen. They were dirty and disgusting, didn't look as if they'd ever been cleaned. If something so basic cant be cleaned, then my grandson wasn't going to go in the swimming pool. This may seem to some as a unjustified moan as caravans have the facilities to use. But when their available on site we use them. When emptying the toilet cassette , the guy next to us had wellingtons, overalls and gloves on because it is a septic tank your emptying into. So judge for yourselves, you've been warned!!
