Perfect CL

A great site with three hard standing pitches and two grass, spotless facilities and Katherine our hostess provided a small OS map of the immediate area and helped with local restaurant details and even provided a taxi number. We used it as base to cycle into Saltburn-on-the-Sea along the coast to Redcar and would stay again.

Excellent site.

Great site. Quiet, tidy and well maintained. We particularly liked the dog walking field. The owner Katherine followed up our telephone booking with a helpful, informative email. This was reassuring in this new Covid world. I can definitely see us returning.

Room with a view

Just recently stayed for 10 days at Paddock house in various types of weather, from howling wind & rain to red hot clear skies. Although on a hill over looking the distant sea. It was a pleasurable stay. Amenities all easily accessible and clean. The pitch area is little cramped when full of 5 vans due to the sloped half. but those we shared with were all friendly and stayed equally as long as us.. A short drive to access the wonders of the north east coast line or the north York moors. I will be a regular here.

Friendly site in a good position

We were rather surprised when we arrived at this cl, as it wasn't quite what we expected having read the foregoing reviews. The approach is up a long, initially steep gravelly slope, into a sloping field with a level area at the top for pitching. The photos shown are out of date, as there is now a track up the field and 2 hardstandings off of it. Trees line the top and rhs, and were full of birdsong. 2 areas are hardstanding, the others grass, which is cut but not collected. There were a lot of grass cuttings on our visit. Facilities are very well organized and set up, the waste and chemical waste areas at the bottom of the field, with good rinsing, as shown on the photos. Fresh water is halfway down on one side. The owners are lovely and very helpful, price £12.50 this year. There are lovely sea views, although there are old farm buildings in front and a caravan storage area next door. This will be screened when the new hedge grows up. We found the lanes disappointing for cycling, despite checking on ordinance survey maps,in reality they are narrow and winding, and very busy, with lots of dips and hills. Fine in the car and towing. There is significant road noise in the day, but very quiet at night. Saltburn is lovely, and as stated elsewhere, there is an Asda and ALDI nearby, plus fuel station. One thing to note is that on arrival, be ready to turn left Immediately after the railway bridge, its hardly any distance. Overall a good site for exploring by foot or car, with lovely friendly owners.

Lovely CL

We always struggle to find CLs open in the winter and very pleased we found this one. Lovely views and very quiet. We are walkers so we walked into Saltburn and then walked the back to Redcar and back - about 18 miles in all. Saltburn is about a 3 1/2 mile walk and there are various routes. We went through the Tees Valley nature reserve which was a lovely walk. The Cleveland way is very close too. If you are walkers this is a great location. Access was easy enough, and Katherine the owner came out to greet us and open the gate etc which was really nice of her. The facilities are better than most CLs - The Chemical Toilet area is excellent and lovely and clean and tidy. In fact it's better than some club sites. The fresh water pipe was well insulated and centrally located. EHU was 10Amp which is more than enough for our needs. There were both normal and recycling bins. There is one hardstanding pitch which we used but the grass was very stable. We struggled a little with TV signal - couldn't get BBC - But with the lovely views of the valley and the sea the TV wasn't the priority for us. Im sure if we moved the van we could have got a signal if we had tried harder. Nothing not to like at all about this charming CL. Thank you Katherine.

Came back for more

Stayed here earlier in year for 4 night and just had to come back for a week. Beautiful location, great views can just see the sea, quiet and spacious. There is a couple of hard standing areas so good for out of season. The area has a lot to offer, traditional seaside, deserted beaches, walks, Asda with 24hr fuel 2 miles away. We still have a list of things to do so will have to come back again.

Everything a CL should be

The has to be one of the best CL sites we have ever stayed on. It typifies what CL sites are about. The ability to have a low cost holiday in lovely surroundings. The directions were spot on and we bagged one of the two hardstanding pitches which give a lovely view of the sea. This is a no frills site so if you're expecting a toilet block, showers et al then go else where. If however you want somewhere that gives you good access to the sea at Saltburn or the moors above the site then this is the perfect place

Good wee site

Found the site easily from directions. It is well laid out, has good views of surrounding countryside and is ideally suited for access to Coast or Moors for walks, etc. There's a bit of industrial history to discover in the area as well as Captain Cook. Plenty of Pubs with good beer and food in the surrounding villages. Site area protected by hedgerow and trees and although on a slight slope Storm Hector passed over mid June 18 with little effect. We liked it and will be back

Slightly Reluctant

OK the title of the review may seem a little ambiguous but read on. Every time we've managed to find somewhere we could book at the last minute it has either been somewhere we would not bother to return to Or It has been an undiscovered gem. This is definitely in the later category. Past experience has shown that this type of place all to soon becomes so popular that last minute bookings become few and far between. By leaving a good review I may be shooting myself in the foot but conscience does allow me to do otherwise. It rates at least 5 stars in all sections, is suitable for all types of units and even the most discerning among us cannot fault the waste disposal facilities. Will be returning to this CL, most certainly, but only of course providing that it does not end up so popular that we are unable to get in.
