Great stay

Lovely site, pitches well spaced. Facilities good quality. Nice to have two separate toilets (1 co located with shower). Footpaths were plentiful which made dog walking a pleasure directly from the site.

Perfect!

Out idea of the perfect CL is one which is surrounded by open countryside, with plentiful walks directly the site for our Border Collie to enjoy, with good facilities and hard standings for our motorhome when the ground is too soft. Well, here it is - and plenty more. The CL shares space with a stable and dressage ring, and it was interesting to see some young riders taking tuition and demonstrating their skills. There are rare breed sheep in some of the surrounding fields, the River Wey flows along one boundary to the site, and there's a water meadow within a short walk that provides dogs with plenty of opportunities for off-lead exercise. Directions are easy to follow, and the CL has its own shower and toilets, with washing machine, dryer and other useful bits and pieces. So, this one is definitely right up at the top of our list of favourite CLs - and with all the delights of Weymouth and other Dorset delights so close at hand, we look forward to coming back again and again.

Brilliant little site

This is by no means a lovely little site. Warm welcome by Craig, hard standing pitch was large to accommodate our caravan/awning and car. It's well placed for both cycling and walking. Footpaths are endless especially if you use the OS explorer OL Map15 for local footpaths straight from the site, we used AA 50 walks of Dorset to walk further afield. Cycling - brilliant, safe country lanes and designated cycle lanes on the main road towards Weymouth. Straight from the site we managed to cycle on our electric bikes into Weymouth and onto Portland using route 26 and then into Dorchester using route 2, both mainly traffic free. Local supermarkets within a short car journey but we cycled within few mins. Facilities are really good for a CL site, clean and well maintained and also WIFI/TV. We would really recommend this site and if we stayed in the area again wouldn't hesitate to return.

A very warm homely welcome

Thank you Emma for such a warm welcome from your family including the cute little ponies and black cat for our first Go-pod adventure of 2022. Very peaceful & good sized hard standing with a picnic table (not that we needed much space for our tiny Go pod!) superb facilities-clean shower and even a toaster & microwave & washing machine. Information board very helpful. Best facilities we have ever found on a CL,! Many thanks for loaning us your 25 m cable for 16A electrics at no extra charge. We love your ponies! Look forward to staying for longer next time.

What a Little Gem

We have just spent 3 nights at Mouse Cottage (it would have been more if Eunice hadn't arrived). We were looking for a site that was open in the winter and what a lovely one this was. 2 spacious hardstandings were to be had and the grass pitches were equaly large and set within a large fenced area. The facilities and security of the site were impressive. This is a working stable with always something going on but never to the disturbance of its guests. A credit to both Emma and Craig who were both friendly and welcoming. We love this area and intend to make this site our base. Top marks to you both.

Exceptional - Best site we have stayed on in the UK

Stayed at Mouse Cottage for 6 nights, we were welcomed immediately and all the facilities on site were explained. Using the facilities we found even more than we thought, including washing machine, toaster, kettle, microwave and a camping cookbook! As my wife had recently had an accident and couldn’t walk easily, she found both toilets and the shower to be fully equipped for disabled users, without highlighting it as disabled. Well positioned to get into Weymouth by bus or short taxi ride, spacious pitches and beautiful setting with horses and sheep close by. Would totally recommend this site for young and old, couples and families.

Exceptional

This last review doesn't give this CL a fair rating, in our opinion. We stayed at the same time and considering the amount of rain the site stood up remarkable well. It is fair to say it is well drained. There are two hard standing pitches plus pitches with gravel underlay, one of each was free at this time. The facilities were closed due to Covid regulations. We find the horses an added attraction and are very friendly, as are the owners Emma and Craig We have stayed many times and have never been disappointed. It has easy access and is secure, a lovely spot Highly recommended, members for 34 years JJCL Caravaners

Not exceptional

Arrived in rain. Field was sodden. No facilities as expected but £20 charge still applied. Missed entrance as sign obscured. Lots of noise from horse in stable. Walks from site overgrown. Most pitches on slope. Pleasant and well maintained but nothing exceptional. Had booked after reading reviews here but disappointed. However a lovely country haven within easy reach of Weymouth.Other sites within sight. Craig very pleasant.

Wonderful Place to Stay

We have just had a very enjoyable long weekend at Mouse Cottage. Met on arrival by Emma (and Baby!), we had a quick tour of the site and opted for a hardstanding pitch adjacent to the stable. The electric hook-up for this pitch is about 25m away but luckily we have a long enough cable - although Emma offered us the loan of one if we didn't so no need to worry if you only have a short cable. The CL is located in a VERY quiet little village with hardly any traffic so was absolutely fantastic for just sitting and chilling out in the beautiful countryside. The pitch we had meant that once set up MH door and outside table were south facing so we had the sun all day - when it was out it did pour with rain one afternoon of our stay! Due to COVID not all the facilities are open yet - however being self contained it didn't matter and the water, waste and rubbish points are closely located to all pitches - and no bad smells either. Emma & Craig have an adjacent field with some friendly horses and rare breed sheep - who are quite mad! We chose to walk down into Weymouth which is mainly downhill and just under 4 miles away - luckily the weather was good! We would definitely consider returning to Mouse Cottage - but next time we'll wait until Weymouth is fully open as it was difficult to get into pubs and restaurants due to only having outside tables available.

A hidden corner of Dorset

We have just had a very enjoyable week at Mouse Cottage. Well located to explore the local coast, and view the cruise ships moored out in Weymouth Bay during COVID-19. Magnicent, but somewhat sad at the same time. And handy also to explore Very pretty scenery and villages north of Dorchester. When arriving, We somehow missed the road that took us to the Morrison’s roundabout. Never fear, take the road towards Upwey station, the bridge is huge to get under, then turn left onto the old Dorchester road, and right into Nottington lane. Due to Covid, Emma met us on arrival and then we were much left to ourselves. Sadly no information on local facilities, or her cakes to sample! WiFi was excellent. Tv good too. One side of site, near the stream loses the sun by 2ish, the other side near the permissive path is far sunnier. Your choice! Lovely to watch the horses in adjoining field, and a good easy circular walk from the footpath through the site, even for reluctant walkers (my husband!). Would have been nice to see pitches mowed after someone left (who had obviously been there a long time) but maybe no one else was due in?
