Gloucestershire Gem

We booked 3 nights in October to walk along the Severn Way and visit Tewkesbury. Directions to follow are given in the handbook and instructed not to follow SatNav which is good advice. The CL is located close to the River Severn at Haw Bridge, 4 miles south of Tewkesbury. It is accessed through a double 5-bar gate into a grass field that had been cut recently when we arrived. We received a friendly greeting by Mike on arrival and had the choice of all but one pitch, all served with a water tap and EHU, with grey water discharged directly into the hedge. There is an upstand sewer pipe for black water disposal near the entrance, that (if I was to make one suggestion) would benefit from being positioned lower or have a toilet pedestal sunk into the ground for ease of emptying (which we have seen elsewhere). During the day we saw blue tits and goldfinches feeding in the hedgerows around the CL and at night heard Tawny Owls screeching and hooting. The sunset on one evening was a bonus. From the CL were able to walk north or south along the Severn Way north and visited Tewkesbury Abbey which is beautiful and the town museum which is really interesting and a great place to visit on a wet afternoon. The village of Deerhurst is worth a visit to see Odda's Chapel (English Heritage but free entry) and the village church, with Anglo Saxon origins. I also found time for an hour of free fishing from Mike's pontoon; I didn't get a bite but watching the sunset along the river valley was memorable. Unfortunately the local pub next to the CL was closed although the Red Lion is open (some days) on the opposite bank about a mile south along the river or road. We didn't go there but other reviews give it the thumbs up. So if you're looking for a tranquil spot in Gloucestershire, close to nature and river, then this CL is a must.

Peaceful site, friendly owners

Chose and booked this site (early July) as it was close to where our youngest daughter lives - but it totally exceeded our expectations! A wonder tranquil place and with full facilities is something to shout about! Though I almost don't want share such a lovely site, it would be terrible not to :) The owner came to greet us and was very friendly and approachable. Rubbish bins were emptied daily and the place was neat and tidy. We enjoyed some fabulous walks along the Severn straight from the site, even stopping a couple of times at the Red Lion to eat (it felt very covid safe) and the food was great. We'll definitely be back - an absolute gem of a find. Thank you so much for our wonderful time there.

Mishap on arrival.

Found site ok, arriving on the 1st July, until 5th July 2021. On approach we were confronted with double galvanised farm gates with a heavy duty drop over bar securing at the centre. My wife, who is slight of build, agreed to undo the gates but unfortunately the weight of the bar crashed down crushing her little finger, nearly loosing the top inch! Panic ensued, contacted the owner to enquire about a local hospital or health centre but WE made the decision to go to Tewksbury cottage hospital. Wonderful attention, but my wife needed 6 stitches and is still attending our local health centre. On return from the hospital, the owner had “ improvised” on the method of opening and closing the gates. Having read previous reviews, this is not the first time these gates have been a problem. We had as it happens a lovely break , but were not impressed with the owners response or the rather shabby condition of the site. By the way , no phone signal and t/v reception poor. James Watkins.

Lovely quiet weekend

Lovely CL next to the river Severn at Haw Bridge between Gloucester and Tewkesbury. Good walks along river bank footpaths to local pubs. Red lion very good, Yew Tree Inn OK. Freindly owner with good local information. Each pitch has high up ehu due to winter flooding and water on each pitch.

Lovely peaceful site

Stayed for a couple of nights. Blessed with beautiful weather..site is reasonably level meadow with hook up points easily accessible and drinking water tap at each pitch. The owner is very friendly and keeps the site very tidy..there is a C&CC CS behind the pub which is just across the Lane ( pub closed for major refurbishment at present) Walks along the river in both directions and quiet cycling lanes close by. We had a lovely time there and shall definitely be going back..

Really good CL

Stayed Sept 20. Very helpful welcoming owner. Good flat, secure site in excellent area for walking along the Severn and to villages. NB check local pubs are open before visiting though The Red Lion, a 3k walk along good paths by the Severn is always open but busy.

Excellent little site

Stayed here a few times . Owners lovely. Excellent if you love walking. There is a bus stop to Tewksbury . You would need to drive out for a meal. It is central for attractions. I found tv reception ok . Very easy to get too in a caravan just make sure you turn left after the pub and not before . The pub is shut down now sadly. Someone said the hook up was up high on a post but this is in case of flood out of season . I am just under 5ft and I reached it the chap leaves big pladtic step by each pitch. If you like tranquility, nice walks then this is the site for you. The only thing he could make better is the handle on the gate you drive out, it’s a tad heavy. There is a side gate for walking. Defiantly recommend this site one of my favourites.

Nice site .

Nice site. Shame hedges were so high which hid the lovely surrounding countryside. Owners were very pleasant and friendly. 16 amp and good TV but no phone or WiFi access. Two local pubs closed down. Access to walk along river Severn about 50 yrds away. Vehicle is needed to see local area. Quite central for travelling around ie. Gloucester Tewkesbury malverns and Worcester.

Excellent Site

Just had a week at this excellent site. Can fully endorse the other positive reviews. On arrival the first thing we heard was a cuckoo and then all the other bird life. The grass was kept short and there was ample space between the five units with two fresh water taps and one for the waste. Easy access from the site to a riverside walk where the dogs can be exercised and also to Tewksbury and Gloucester. A really nice peaceful site hopefully with a refurbished pub nearby in the next few weeks. No problems with TV reception.
