Just had a lovely 5 night stay at this peaceful site. The site is well kept even though it is part of a working farm. There are good views to be had (but take an extra hook up cable so you can reach across the field). There is an easy to access walk down to Masham which takes about 40 to 45 minutes and plenty of places to walk the dog.
We were surprised to find ourselves the only ones on the site after the weekend. It is such an ideal site, we thought it would be busier. The family who run the site are friendly and helpful.
We will definitely be back.
This site was as expected. A working farm with pigs, dogs, sheep , horses and chickens. EHU, toilet waste , water and recycling hut with black bin. Grass field next to a stunning looking village. A public foot path runs alongside the site for easy access walks.
Masham is a few miles away with the Theakston Brewery located there. I am not a drinker myself but it seemed popular and once our friends at home heard , ale orders began to be emailed to us. A small market is on on Wednesday and Saturday. Lots of tea shops, butcher and coop.
Ripon is an easy drive away, this is the best way to approach the site, from the A1(M).
places we visited
Brimham Rocks NT
Aysgarth falls. £3.50 car park
Grassington. All creatures great and small film here. The Grassington road is a really good scenic road to travel . Malham Cove is on this route.
Pateley Bridge
Skipton Castle £9.50 adults and £4.50 car park
Skipton also has a good selection of shops and a canal boat ride attraction.
Laura gave very good email instructions to the site and it was an easy journey to follow.
We booked for one night as a stopover. Access is tight but manageable. Basic amenities are all ok. However the farm dog uses the field as a toilet. There was dog poo on the field. Owners wife was in residence but claimed not to know what the fees were. I emailed before I got there asking for confirmation of fees but got no response. Owner not available. I paid £20 cash and put it down to experience. I won't return.
After reading the last review of this camp site we arrived with some trepidation but this place turned out to be one of the friendliest and interesting camp sites we had been to. Dog poo was not an issue but you had to aware of chicken poo!
Many of the other campers had been there long term and all of them so friendly.
We loved the free range chickens wandering about, always up for feeding and delighted by the horses being taken through into the next field. The rescue cob horse called Rosie and her lady owner could not have been nicer.
The site itself is reasonably level and surrounded by hedges and a farm building.
Obviously we were very lucky with the other campers but they all stay there so long there's a good chance everybody will meet them.
We would not hesitate in coming here again.
This is the second time we have stayed here but we won't be returning.
The owners and other caravanners dogs were running freely and we had dog poo left in front of our caravan and outside the door! Not something you want to wake up to! There was also dog poo near the refuse bins. Alarmingly we also witnessed another caravanner scooping his dog's poo and throwing it up into the area behind a child's swing.
We also had vehicles passing in front of our caravan leading into an adjacent field on a couple of occasions including evenings. We know this is a working farm and we do prefer to stay on farms and in fact the free range hens were the highlight.
We felt the owners were not particularly welcoming and it is such a shame as the area and the walking is lovely.
