PLEASE READ TERMS AND CONDITIONS ABOUT AWNINGS AND THE USE OF GROUNDSHEETS!!

We had booked this site for 3 weeks and arrived looking forward to a nice relaxing holiday. We have a caravan and awning with an annex at each end. These have built in groundsheets and are used to sleep in. We were asked to take up the built in groundsheets daily to protect the grass, which would entail removing both ends of our awning exposing it to the weather. We felt very uncomfortable to do this, as there was no compromise, so decided to leave the next day. We explained our reasons for leaving to Jane and Gary and they didn’t seem to sympathise with our decision, they were just very business like and wanted full payment for the 3 weeks as stated in the terms and conditions. I could understand if we had stayed longer but only 1 night costing £506 is extremely expensive. It tells you about using breathable groundsheets and pup tents in the terms and conditions but I would suggest that they state about awning annex with built in groundsheets not being suitable for this site as if we had known would not have booked in the first place. We have used CL sites for many years and this is the first time we have have had any problems. We feel very let down and sad this has happened.

Thank you for your review which raises a key point about our site and grass pitches which the majority of our guests do appreciate.

You are correct that our Terms and Conditions clearly state that we do not permit non-breathable groundsheets, including those that are built-in to awnings, pup tents or pods. We also explain why these are not permitted since all our pitches are grass, and having a built-in groundsheet in place for just a few days causes the grass to die back. This is not acceptable to us, or to the guests that arrive after you expecting a good quality pitch. We do ask that guests show respect to fellow campers.

However, we were happy to compromise and suggested that you lift the two groundsheets on a regular basis during your stay to allow the grass to breath.Unfortunately you decided that this was not practical. Since you were to be with us for 3 weeks, the pitch would have suffered irreparable damage without doing this.

Thank you for your suggestion to add a note to the Terms and Conditions about the use of awning annexes which we have now done.

It was your decision to leave and yes, our Terms and Conditions do require full payment where guests leave following their arrival, since being able to fully re-book your pitch, particularly for a 3 week period at no notice is unlikely. You did appreciate this for which we were grateful.

Your review has highlighted this specific issue which I'm sure will help other members.
