We stayed here in April 2023. It's very conveniently situated just off the A1 but it's a quiet site with very helpful owners. The hard standing pitches do not have a particularly attractive outlook but the paddock pitches are lovely and are separated by small hedges. The only reason for giving it 4 starts rather than 5 is that the EHU is just 6 amps and our microwave wouldn't work as it just tripped the feed. It's the only CL site we have been to where this has been a problem
Very nice site. Very nicely kept. Grass cut nicely. Lovely fully serviced pitches. Very quiet except for very big lorries going to farm next door. Not a very good welcome as we didnt even speak to the site owner. Beware when we booked it was advertised there was a 10 amp electric hook up. When we got there it was only 6 amp. Could not use the microwave so all cooking had to be done on electric hob which took a lot longer. I see advert on club website has been altered to show only 6 amps. Other than that we really enjoyed the stay. Newark is a really picturesque town, well worth a visit.
Booked this site because of its proximity to the A1 for a one-night stopover. The booking procedure was thorough, we booked via email and were asked to phone the owner the evening prior to arrival. This was good as we were told everything we needed to know about our stay before we arrived. We stayed on one of the fully serviced pitches, which were of a generous size, flat & level and screened by hedges. Although close to the A1, there was no intrusive road noise. There’s also a wild-flower meadow adjacent to the site, which is nice for those early morning/late night dog walks. It’s a nice 15 minute amble to the Five Bells pub. The only downside for some could be the 6amp electric supply, but this wasn’t a problem for us. We’d certainly book this site again if we visit this area again.
The site is very level on grass and well located from A1. Easy to find and well appointed. Very quiet.
Unfortunately we had a blow out on our van at the site and Pete, the owner, was very helpful offering ideas and suggestions. Even offered for us to return to the site if we hadn't found anywhere else.
Thank you for a great stay despite the misfortune we had, you made it smoother and calmer by not having added pressure in an already stressful situation.
Stayed here for 7 nights and found it to be a very clean, tidy and well run site. The pitches are nice and flat/level with conifer screening between them. There was no problem with road noise. Lots of bird life to be seen. This is one of the better sites I have been on and we will be returning at some time.
What a lovely surprise this site was. Unfortunately we only stayed one night as we were travelling North. Very peaceful, flat, lawned site with pitches separated by conifer trees. I have read the other reviews and when you have booked you receive an email with clear instructions to call between 6pm and 8 pm for the gate code to get in. Pete was very clear on the code and instructions and I don’t mind this as it makes the site secure. Nice little pub in the village that can be walked in 10 minutes. We will be back for longer next time to do some exploring on our bikes.
On booking this site we were asked to call a few days before to be advised of the key code and directions. We didn't remember being asked to call evenings and called during the afternoon to have our heads bitten off by the owner, he was extremely rude, so much so we were contemplating not going at all. As it happened we did go, the site itself is very pleasant, well cared for and each pitch is screened off with conifers. We always find it extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming though when owners can't even briefly introduce themselves at some point, even just briefly to aak if everything is ok. During our week here, both owners were out and about, the man tinkering with his van and cutting the lawn yet never once did either if them make eye contact or wave.
Used this site twice as a stopover between Essex and Yorkshire this September. Easy access from A1. Hard standing pitches are situated alongside the green barn, with electric hook up. We were in the grass paddock which is beautifully kept. Five flat spacious pitches separated by 4ft high conifer trees for extra privacy. Two water points. Information room which was closed due to Covid. Rubbish bins. Chemical disposal point. Pleasant walk into Claypole and would recommend The Five Bells pub.
Unfortunately we only stayed 2 nights out of a 4 night stay due to 5 loose guinea pigs (near the wooden information hut) causing distress to our dog. If we had known the site contained loose guinea pigs we would not have booked our break here with our dog, especially as it is advertised as a dog friendly site. There are no dog walking facilities locally unless you take the dog in the car away from the site.
The site is also next to a very busy farm track with constant heavy machinery and articulated lorries/trucks frequently using this road. As we only CL sites for our breaks we were disappointed with this one.
