We had an excellent long weekend here, which was absolutely perfect. I can back up all of the other members positive comments about this CL, but would just like to add how friendly everyone was in this village, from Richard the landlord to the folks running the volunteer shop. We will certainly be back!
A well tended grassy site behind a delightful pub. A visit to the local shop, manned by volunteers, is a must. I'm probably a bit mean, but I do think that £15 per night is a tad expensive for a CL.
Warm welcome from locals and owner/publican. Lovely pub and great food so far (one evening meal and one lunch). Beautiful countryside and lots of pleasant walks, by the fishing lakes, along the canal towpath or just around the quaint village. We tend to use our own motorhome facilities but the toilet is clean and perfectly adequate, with toilet paper, soap and paper towels supplied. We haven't moved from the site yet, we are blessed with great weather, but might try a bus trip into Devizes tomorrow, if they allow dogs on the bus. Will be back.
To expensive, never found any facilities that we found and we didn't want to go into a pub.
Nice and quiet.
Nice little village.
Don't think we would make another visit.
Web site and handbook say £12.00 per night, when we went to pay we were told this was a mistake and it was £15.00.
Also this is supposed to be a waterside CL, it is next to a lake but you can neither see it (due to a hedgerow) or get to it (due to a fence).
Nice pub lovely area but not a £15.00 a night CL.
for a non waterside! CL £10.00 would have been plenty, left feeling a bit ripped off.
The Kings Arms is an interesting place to find and I was lucky that a friend had found it before and recommended it..
Looking out of my van window over the the Wiltshire countryside was fantastic and for the most part very quiet, apart from the odd farmer and their tractor.
The pub provides a great selection on beer from the Wadsworth brewery and was enjoyed greatly...
Richard the landlord was very welcoming and an interesting chat at his bar...
Well worth a visit ...I will return.
Not easy to find in the dark, even with a satnav but once there the site is a real find. The food in the pub was excellent and the owners were really welcoming. I would advise booking a table in advance at weekends as the restaurant area was very full when we arrived.
Arrival was easy but I am glad we followed the directions given in the handbook; some of the local roads are a bit skinny!
The CL is set in about an acre of gently sloping grassland. I needed all my leveling blocks. We checked in at the pub after we had set up for a well deserved drink and were made welcome by publican, regulars and some other Club members from the site. We ate there three times during our stay and were never disappointed. Wadswoth beers were well kept and as ever, enjoyable.
From here the Vale of Pewsey has some nice towns around which to wander. The Kenet and Avon Canal is busy and its towpath is only a short walk away. Swindon is home to a Railway Museum and a big shopping outlet. The sky was always full of helicopters or light aeroplanes and you are not far from Royal Wooton Bassett and RAF Wroughton where the Science Museum houses some of its bigger avaition pieces.(only open a few days a year).
had a wonderful weekend there, excellent site in fact far better than many CL'S. very peaceful site and the adjoining pub serves well kept Wadsworth ale! evening meal was excellent and they are very dog friendly! the scenery on the drive there is stunning as you gaze across the vale of Pewsey. we are booked to go again and cannot wait
