Recommended but don't expect a warm welcome

Very well kept grounds in a perfect location. Lots of walks accessible directly from the site and a lovely stroll into Hawkshead. Marked down slightly because of Mrs Taylforths attitude. She only spoke to us once, to accuse us of something we hadn't done!

Lovely walks and very handy for Hawkshead

We stayed 5 nights here in early June and really enjoyed our time there. There were 3 hardstandings at the entrance to the CL which suited our heavy motorhome, though we were under strict instructions not to drive over the grass! There also seem to be another 5 pitches on a further field, we didn't find out who these belonged to but they didn't encroach on our peace and quiet. The site is adjacent to a very handy footpath which leads to either the village or up into the hillside - we used it to walk to Tarn Hows, just a few miles away. Hawkshead is a very pretty and well-visited village, with a large range of shops, both tourist and general. We particularly liked the deli and the large walking shop (named after the village of course!). There are very handy buses in the village to Ambleside/Windermere and down to Hill Top (Beatrix potter's house) The toilet emptying place is just by the main gate, but the water point is at the top of the site, so fill up before you park up if you have a large water tank.

Wonderful week

After all the rain this year, we knew it was a risk booking a holiday the second week of November in the Lake District! The owner of the site was very hesitant to accept our booking because of the wet ground, but after he discovered we had a 'motor mover' on our unit he booked us in, on the condition we did not drive on any part of his grass! We arrived on the most beautiful of autumn days. Cold but sunny with the colours of the fallen leaves producing a carpet of gold on the tree lined drive to Keen Ground Farm. It was a fabulous week, the weather could have been better but it did not deter any of the activities we had planned for the week. With two dogs in tow, the hospitality of the local hostelries was great. Log fires, mulled wine and great food kept us fed and watered each evening after our days excursions. Definitely will return.
