Excellent find

Lovely peaceful clean and well maintained cl. Tap drain and electric made all the difference to a relaxing stay. Could not have asked for better setting. We were looking for peace and tranquility which we definitely found. Animals were entertaining and owners friendly and helpful. Easy access to all areas. Would definitely stay again if in this area and will recommend to others. Thank you for our ideal stay. This site is a credit to its owners.

Lovely peaceful site

We stayed here a week and thought the site was very tranquil and with the added bonus of friendly farm animals as entertainment. Facilities were spotless. Mr and Mrs Mather are very helpful and friendly and provide a very useful leaflet with local information and places of interest. Would definitely return

2nd visit, there will definitely be a third

Love this site from the fully serviced pitches to the cleanliness and the area. As the weather was so hot we were able to get anywhere with no problems. We especially loved the walking on the coastal paths. Ate at the Black Venus - excellent. Andrew & Claire work so hard to maintain this site and it should be used as a benchmark for other site owners to visit and see how it should be done. See you again Hallsdown Farm in 2017

Sorry to leave this delightful CL

This review is written on the last day of our 2 week stay and we will be very sad to leave in the morning. We arrived in 30 degree heat and a few days later we were back in winter gear with a temperature of 10 degrees! However, this didn't spoil our stay as from the moment we arrived when Andrew personally welcomed us everything worked perfectly. Hard standing pitch hooked up to water, waste and electric with a separate toilet and washroom on site. Wonderful views all round and very quiet and peaceful with the bonus of being adults only and no dogs. The farm animals were a joy to watch and kept us entertained on many occasions. One of the reasons for choosing this site was for us to visit Lundy Island and this we managed to do on a pleasant day although the sea crossing was somewhat choppy. Can agree with the review regarding The Black Venus pub, a short drive away at Challacombe. We had our final lunch there today and it was excellent. From the site we took trips to Ilfracombe, Lynton, Lynmouth and Barnstaple. Overall this was one of our most enjoyable site visits in over 30 years of caravanning and we certainly hope to return in the future. Many thanks to Andrew & Claire and we wish them well in their new venture as they have opened a small touring park this year. This didn't spoil the ambience of the CL in any way so don't let this put you off coming. If you want full shower and toilet facilities this new park is very well equipped and has spacious pitches. However, for our preference we would choose the CL.

We'll be back !!!!

We have just returned from two weeks at Hallsdown and, despite unseasonal weather, had a great stay. The pitches are fairly level and spacious, with the added bonus of water and waste at the van. A godsend in the rainy weather we endured. It's a beautifully maintained site, with immaculately clean toilet, frequently emptied bins and recycling and short grass. The animals (Trojan the Alpaca and the goats) are always an amusing diversion as is the pond with it's little ducks. Arlington Hall is just down the road and is a great morning/afternoon out. The coast and other attractions are a bit of a journey, but they are all worth it. We didn't try Clovelly as it seems a bit of a rip off !! We ate at the Black Venus twice and it was fabulous, but can't say the same for the Station Inn down the road. Given that it's a working farm with another commercial site adjacent, I don't know where Claire and Andrew find the time to keep up the high standards they do. One question ; why can't all CL owners keep their sites like this ????? We'll be back !!!!!!

Great Christmas and New Year

We stayed at this site over Christmas 2016 and over the New Year. Despite very changeable weather we enjoyed the site, especially the water and waste water points at each pitch. It makes life so much easier to have these o tap when you have health issues. The chemical disposal point was clean and easy to access as were the rubbish and recycling bins. There is also a toilet on-site but we did not need to use it so I cannot comment on that. We received a warm welcome from Andrew on arrival and on days that we did not venture out (wet and windy) we were entertained by the two pigmy goats in the field immediately behind the caravan. Indeed on one of the days we saw the donkey and the two ponies rushing around the field much to the bewilderment of the goats. The site is great for visiting Lynton and Lynmouth, Exmoor National Park, the nearby Arlington House National Carriage Museum (National Trust) and Barnstaple for supplies. All in all a great site to which we will return (we've booked another 9 nights in March).

Bubble and Squeak

Bubble and squeak, the pot bellied pigs, were good company for the week as were the other animals. A lovely site with each pitch having it's own water tap and waste water drain. Clean toilet on site if required. Plenty of places to visit but for most you do have to get in the car. Plenty of cycling lanes - most involve serious gradients including some challenging 25% hills. Just read the other reviews with which I concur. Thank you Claire and Andrew (sadly the weather we ordered at the time of booking only appeared for a day or so...)

Peaceful site

We stayed here for 11 nights in August. This was our third visit. As always, a friendly welcome. The new CL is very peaceful and overlooks the newly created wildlife pond. The antics of the ducks when it was time for them to be locked away for the night kept us entertained as Andrew and Clare shepherded them to their hut. The provision of water, electricity and drainage on each pitch is excellent.  There are lots of places to visit in this lovely part of Devon. We will return.

What a difference..

..the weather can make. If it rains much more in North Devon Andrew & Clare will be able to offer canal holidays. The pitch we were on, pitch 5, along with pitches  3 & 4 was unfortunately sodden most of the holiday, I guess in time the ground will consolidate and I am sure that Andrew will install some more drainage. We didn't want to use a ground sheet as killing the grass is not something we enjoy. Still very peaceful and if you don't use an awning you should have no problems. Black Venus pub does excellent food, highly recommended.
