Relaxing Weekend

Situated on the border of Bedfordshire just outside Leighton Buzzard, on Lock 28 of the Grand Union Canal. It is a quiet spot, even with the main west coast rail line near by, and over looks the Grand Union Canal. The site itself is well maintained and adjoins a seperate commercial site for 10 units. The CL section only holds 5 Units as you would expect but you do have your own electrical hookup and water tap so we were able to try out our hose attachement for the aqua roll. Each CL site is very large, and you get plenty of privacy from neighbouring units, although there is a slight slope to the area, which was not a big issue as you can position the unit which ever way you wish. There are 5 seperate toilet cubicles, each having a sink, mirror, toliet and its own shower stall, all kept impecibly clean. On one end of this block is a BBQ and seating area for all to use, whilst the other end has the waste water drain. A seperate building houses the refuse bins for houeshold waste (but no recycling facilities), and the toilet waste is shared with the boating community. The site is well secured with gated entrance, and apon arival you are issued with a 5 digit passkey to open the gate should you leave. The gate opens automatically when you leave the site. On arrival you are also issued with a key for the gate between the site and the pub, as well as plenty of useful information about what to do in the surrounding area. The only issue we had was that apart form the site itself, if you wanted to walk further than the pub it meant crossing the lock gates, which for Jack the lab proved difficult as he is afraid of heights and refused to cross! Once across you can walk/cycle down to Leighton Buzzard along the tow path or towards Aylesbury. Just being able to sit and watch the narrow boats travel the lock was enough for us for the weekend! You can book a meal at the pub, The Grove, if you so wish but the menu is somewhat restricted and unfortunately for us at a busy time the service was quite slow. Overall we had a very relaxing weekend here, and would definately return, this time with our bikes.  For pictures of the site please visit my web pages here, click on UK Trips and scroll down ot Grove lock button.
