Relaxing Weekend

Situated on the border of Bedfordshire just outside Leighton Buzzard, on Lock 28 of the Grand Union Canal. It is a quiet spot, even with the main west coast rail line near by, and over looks the Grand Union Canal. The site itself is well maintained and adjoins a seperate commercial site for 10 units. The CL section only holds 5 Units as you would expect but you do have your own electrical hookup and water tap so we were able to try out our hose attachement for the aqua roll. Each CL site is very large, and you get plenty of privacy from neighbouring units, although there is a slight slope to the area, which was not a big issue as you can position the unit which ever way you wish. There are 5 seperate toilet cubicles, each having a sink, mirror, toliet and its own shower stall, all kept impecibly clean. On one end of this block is a BBQ and seating area for all to use, whilst the other end has the waste water drain. A seperate building houses the refuse bins for houeshold waste (but no recycling facilities), and the toilet waste is shared with the boating community. The site is well secured with gated entrance, and apon arival you are issued with a 5 digit passkey to open the gate should you leave. The gate opens automatically when you leave the site. On arrival you are also issued with a key for the gate between the site and the pub, as well as plenty of useful information about what to do in the surrounding area. The only issue we had was that apart form the site itself, if you wanted to walk further than the pub it meant crossing the lock gates, which for Jack the lab proved difficult as he is afraid of heights and refused to cross! Once across you can walk/cycle down to Leighton Buzzard along the tow path or towards Aylesbury. Just being able to sit and watch the narrow boats travel the lock was enough for us for the weekend! You can book a meal at the pub, The Grove, if you so wish but the menu is somewhat restricted and unfortunately for us at a busy time the service was quite slow. Overall we had a very relaxing weekend here, and would definately return, this time with our bikes.  For pictures of the site please visit my web pages here, click on UK Trips and scroll down ot Grove lock button.

Weekend visiting family

Brilliant CL, lovely facilities nice location  a little hassle in getting in locked gates... JUST make sure to get clear instructions on how to enter the site as there was no one there after six!!! Main London to Manchester train line adjacent to the site after a while you forget the trains... the pub on site was lovely but we did have very hot weather which made it perfect!

Great site

We booked over Easter for 5 nights and stayed on a new 10 pitch field next to the CL. Although these pitches are quite close together compared to the CL they are OK. The facilities are very good although they are not heated and there are some wall hooks but no shelves by the sink or the shower ( why does this happen so often) please put some in! The caretaker who also looks after the marina is very friendly and helpful. As in previous reviews we were wary of the railway line the adjacent road and the Luton airport flight path, but it really isn't a problem unless you have come from the middle of nowhere! Definitely recommended.

not great

Booked here for Easter, but was put into the extra field, not on the CL field.  We didn't stay as the vans were so close together we couldn't get our awning up. It looked lovely on arrival, very pretty, and we did have a warm welcome.  I i'd advise that you make sure you are on the CC site!

Something a bit different

We stayed at Grove Lock for two nights at Easter. The site has plenty of room and the toilet and shower facilities are very clean, spacious and warm. Our young son enjoyed seeing all the various forms of transport that you can witness from this site - narrow boats, trains, cars and aeroplanes! I can honestly say that none of these caused a problem in terms of noise at night. This site is something a bit different and I would recommend it if you are visiting the area - we went to Bletchley Park. The only drawback for us was the freezing wind that whistled across the fields, making the minute walk to the shower and pub uncomfortable, particularly for the children. The Grove Lock pub serves excellent food but it is pricey.

first time user

Having passed the site weekly when living in Luton we decided this site would be idea for visiting family in Leighton buzzard now we live in Lincolnshire. We aren't bookers so took the gamble and were lucky. As for those moaning about the noise levels do you not look were your going beforehand. Yes the site is in sight on the west coast line and a well used road also under Luton flight path but we found none of these a problem. We will be back often and for longer. At the moment campers share the facilities with the marina but a new campsite block is being finished as I type.

First CL

This is our first taste of a CL. Stayed a couple of nights. Noisy during the day with the busy road & railway. Just about slept without ear plugs. The site itself is very clean, with good size pitches. Showers & toilets very clean & warm.

Huge pitches!

Arrived before the, 5pm latest arrival time, so had no problem with the security gate. The road and railway line does make it noisy at times, but didn't spoil it for us. Huge pitches, plenty of benches on site for outdoor eating. Spotless facilities shared with canal residents. Pub onsite, and more if you're prepared to walk the canal toe paths. We stayed 9 nights, so got the 7night stay deal, which made it great value

Sorry - not a quiet site

Recently stayed on the Marina CL. Arrived about 1830hrs to find gates locked and got no answer from the Wardens telephone number. Was told by a marina occupant that the warden finished at 1800hrs. Luckily they let us in . Warden could not recall our booking although luckily there was space available. Facilities at the site were excellent (toilets/showers), as they should be at that price. Unfortunately a really noisy site due to the main railway located opposite and a busy road. We counted up to 6 trains in ten minutes which rather spoiled our stay. If you want peace and quiet then one to avoid.
