Ease of arrival/welcome

A Haven not to be missed

Greenloch House was the perfect stopover for us on our way back to Northern Ireland via the Cairnryan Ferry. Although we only stayed for one night, this site and its location would make a great base for a longer stay.

This is a real gem of a site and if we lived in Scotland we would be regulars here.

The history of this site is very interesting. Greenloch House (a former manse) is a listed building built on the site of Soulseat Abbey. The grounds are beautiful and contain several 16th century gravestones.

The owners were not at home when we arrived but there was a notice advising us to choose a pitch (hence only 3 ticks for ease of arrival/welcome). We met Nicola the owner later on in the day and found her to be particularly pleasant.

The well-spaced pitches are mowed out of what can only be described as a meadow (incidentally, the former name of Greenloch House was Meadowsweet, probably after the herb which can be found there).

Greenloch House is situated on a promontory and whilst sitting in the caravan gave us the impression of being on an island. We enjoyed great views over Soulseat Loch.

Each pitch had access to electric and its own table and chairs. There is a toilet in an outhouse but no shower.

There had been constant rain before and during our stay which made the slight ascent back up and out to the gate a challenge as it was muddy and slippery. We managed after a long run up and two attempts.

On a final note, this is a lovely site and we would thoroughly recommend it, though you too may encounter the huge swarms of large non-biting flies which greeted us with enthusiasm on arrival and returned again with much gusto on departure to see us off. Smile
