Friars Court Island
Fabulous site next to the Thames, Good Value. The site is just of a short footpath, right next to the river. Lovely watching the world go by on the river. Really helpful staff on site, pointing out various walks across the estate land. Lots of wildlife as well. Thames Path over the other side of river. Shame the weekend I was there the pub had a late night disco or party going on which is next door to the site which was quite loud.
Island Idyll
A long awaited return to this CL. It had been seven years since our previous visit, and thankfully nothing had changed.
The CL is accessed via a short drive off the public highway, we turned left in to the drive and didn't find it difficult. Once your outfit is safely off the highway there is a coded barrier (number is provided when booking) which affords security and prevents inquisitive visitors. Then it is a case of moving forward and turning right over a small bridge (no cause for concern) which leads you on to the CL itself, which really is an island.
All the necessary facilities are clustered around the bridge and are kept impeccably well. The CL itself is level, you pitch where you want, though everyone seems drawn to the river. It is a joy to watch the boats cruising up and down the river. There is an abundance of wildlife too.
The Thames path is just over the road bridge. Easy walking (3.5 miles) to Kelmscott, birthplace of William Morris. Going the other way for about 4.5 miles and past two delightful locks you find The Trout at Tadpole Bridge.
The Ye Olde Swan pub is on the road bridge by the CL, it has delightful gardens and serves traditional pub fayre. We didn't find the presence of a pub being so close noisy or intrusive at all. In fact it is a pleasant evening stroll for a beer.
The CL has a voluntary manager who collects fees and checks your membership card too and is a good source of local information.

Lovely site adjacent to the Thames Path
A very pleasant site adjacent to the River Thames, shared with a few boat moorings. Although the site has no EHU facilities, it is spacious, level, and clearly well cared for. A very pleasant site manager (Bryan) welcomes visitors, and explains the facilities and local attractions. He also checks CC membership cards, and the access gate has a combination padlock - both nice touches that show concern by the owners. No recycling facilities, but adequate waste disposal and provision for fresh water and toilet emptying. Unfortunately our stay was slightly marred by a 3-day rock festival going on at the adjacent pub (not associated with the CL site)....but then you may view this as a bonus!? Peace reigned again when the music stopped, however. Access from the south on the A4095 over the ancient Radcot Bridge crossing of the Thames is not very wide for outfits, but access from the north is fine.
