Our new favourite CL!!! - Simply fantastic

We live in Bedale so this CL is only 25 mins from home but what a Gem! Location: Located in the Nidderdale Valley it is perched high on a hill with commanding views of the stunning scenery. We are walkers so access to numerous paths and bridleways was the big pull for this site. Facilities: Pitches are fully serviced and flat (Side to side) although the site slopes downhill so blocks will be needed if side on. The bin area and Elsan point is nice and tidy. There is also an inside toilet which was an added bonus. The owners were lovely and very welcoming - They should be rightly proud of this stunning CL. We will be back!!!

High on a Hill

Not a reference to any substances that may have been inhaled (or not) but the situation of this quite lovely CL. There are many plus points. - The owners for a start are a mine of information and quite happy to stop and have a chat. The views are splendiferous, looking all the way down towards Harrogate and way beyond or off to east of Yorkshire. The toilet that is provided is cleaned daily and proper loo paper provided. The pitches have their own water tap and drainage and hook up close by. The elsan point is straight into the sewer system and you do not have to lift the toilet to empty it. The site is well situated for visiting many of the local attractions and we were able to walk up to Brimham Rocks (just over a mile away) quite easily. The site is well looked after with 3 grass pitches and 2 hardstandings with a further 2 hardstandings just above the site near to the barn area (albeit with these occupiers able to use the facilities offered by the cl.). The site was kept clean and tidy and bins emptied daily (various bins for recycling). The minus points? - The 1 mile approach road will not be to some peoples likening as it has very few passing places. However in mitigation the road carries very little traffic and on arrival and leaving we met with no-one and most other stayers had the same tale. It's just something to be aware of. We and many others had no problem with the entrance or exit but we did see someone get in trouble when exiting the site. It really shouldn't be a problem if care is taken and the 2 twin axles that arrived one day had no problems entering the site. The site does have quite a slope. The 3 grass pitches, which have adequate spacing between units, slope side to side and levelling blocks have been provided by the owners to help. We did actually manage to get level but it did cause a problem getting the awning right. The 2 H/S's slope front to back but both units on them had awnings up. I wouldn't have thought it would be ideal for motorhomers. One thing to bear in mind is that it is quite high up and, whilst on the leeward side of a hill, does attract a stronger wind than down in the valleys. The views and peace and quiet definitely outweighed any other "problems" we had. It should be noted that the owners also have a delightful 2 person cottage to rent, in view of the CL but next to their own house, so you could possibly holiday with non caravanning friends or family. It is an adult only site. One we will return to when next in the area, hopefully.

Excellent CL

We stayed at Fir Trees for a long weekend in May and it was great. The weather was lovely which always helps and this site has fabulous views to enjoy. It was great having all the amenities on each pitch and it felt like a super pitch. The little toilet was a bonus and was spotlessly clean at all times. Val and her husband where very welcoming and helpful and we have no criticism whatsoever of this CL. We will definitely be returning to enjoy the peace and quiet in wonderful surroundings.

Lovely Site

We have just returned from a long weekend at Firtree and can't recommend it enough. On arrival received a warm welcome from Mr Bradley who was friendly throughout our stay. As mentioned by previous reviewers the road is narrow, but we had no problems with oncoming traffic, access to the site was quite easy, we had a hard standing pitch while sloping slightly caused no problems. The site is peaceful, tidy and well presented, ideally placed for walking and visiting local attractions. Well worth visiting.

Everything that I'd hoped for.

Really happy with this site and the owner's couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. I was there for the last week in October 2017, and as I first stepped out of the car, I was struck by the wonderful peace and quiet. The site is arranged with three pitches in a row, next to a barn, and two further down the slope below it, (all hardstanding). All have excellent views over open countryside to the east, with sloping fields behind, to the west. Each pitch has its own water supply, and 10A EHU. The toilet is close by and well maintained. I was on the smallest pitch, nicely separated from others. It was sloping, but not by too much and easily levelled with blocks. Brimham Rocks is only 1.5 mls and Fountains Abbey 8 miles, and the whole of the Nidderdale Valley on the doorstep. The little shop in Summerdale (2 mile), seems to stock everything, and the local bread sold there I found especially delicious. There's also a Farm Supply store, just opposite the shop, which sells diesel, (I'm not sure about petrol?) The only slight difficulty, as with so many CLs in the depths of the country, is that to reach the site, there is a single track road for about 1.5ml. Plenty wide enough to take any rig, but I wouldn't be comfortable to meet something else big. I had no problems with the entrance gateway, that another reviewer mentioned, but then I have a small rig, and of course the gateway may have been widened since then. The best I can say is that I'm hoping to go again, next year.

What a find.Will be back.

Stayed September 2017 and can't wait to get back. The owner is a lovely lady and very helpful. We had a hard standing which is necessary if there has been alot of rain. EHU tap and waste water drain all on pitch with a very clean and modern toilet a few yards away. One of the quietest and most peaceful sites we have ever stayed at. Please don't be put off by the negative comments received although it is their opinion but trust me you will not be disappointed.

Great Site

We have stayed here on a number of occasions and have always received the friendliest of welcomes. Reading the previous review I could not recognise this as the same site. It is a peaceful site with excellent walks for our dog without having to go on the public road. We have never had a problem with the electrics Planning access roads to the site is important, don't just rely on sat nav. It is very easy to avoid roads which are very narrow. This is a great site for visiting Ripon, Harrogate, Pateley Bridge and Knaresborough.

Dreadful Experience

Reading other reviews we wonder if we stayed at the same CL. The site was reached after almost 2 miles of a narrow road almost a track without passing places I was dreading meeting another vehicle the site entrance is very narrow and difficult to enter and leave. The owner was not friendly and in fact most unhelpful, we were allocated a hardstanding pitch next to the chemical waste and rubbish enclosure in fact only a metre separated it from our caravan! To make matters worse the pitch was on a steep slope which necessitated at least 12 inches of levelling from side to side of the caravan which caused problems entering the caravan and made our awning unusable due to the steepness of the slope. The 10amp electrics tripped out every few minutes which the owner said was caused by our almost brand new caravan possibly being faulty but when we plugged into a nearby post found that everything worked without tripping!! Frankly I am amazed that this site has so many good reviews we would never return under any circumstances and wish you good luck if you risk going there.

A gem site in Nidderdale

Firtree is a superb CL in an elevated and peaceful location in Nidderdale not far from some wonderful local days out eg. Brimham rocks , Fountains Abbey, Pateley bridge and many more. There are now additional hard standings and some are fully serviced with water and waste. Views are superb. Good phone and TV reception. Toilet on site as well. Friendly owners often around to help. We had a few problems with 10amp electric tripping but worked around it by using low wattage appliances. Many thanks to the management for hospitality on your site. Highly recommended.
