We stayed here for two overnight stays and wished we’d stayed longer. Small site with marvellous views from the top of a hill. Owners very friendly and also the free range hens were very friendly too!
A 5th Wheel adventure!
This fantastic site was peaceful, amazing views and allows access to the most spectacular scenery for coast and mountains. We stayed here for 4 nights in late January 2019. It snowed hard before and during our stay and whilst access for our 5th wheel was interesting, slow and sure ensured a safe arrival. Access is a single track undulating road but the snow plow came past mid morning each day to keep the road open.
The pitches are a little tight but we only had 1 night shared with a motorhome but the rest of the time we had peace and quiet all to ourselves. Comments about the dog are unfounded and as a typical Collie I though it was extremely endearing and friendly. The sheep came for a look over the fence and the chickens proved a great source of entertainment.
Site water froze overnight but Mr Walker Smith was only too happy to allow me access to his garage and nothing was too much trouble. Bins are available and the EHU's conveniently located. There is a lot of grass and fortunately our 4x4 truck made it easy to get off. Again it would be a bit tight if all pitches had been occupied but off peak was easy. Exiting this CL is a fairly steep ramp which I was happy to clear of lying snow and grit (conveniently provided by the excellent local authority in a pile opposite this site) to make our departure easy.
From this site we drove up to John O Groats, Cape Wrath, Dunrobin Castle, Thurso, Dunnet Head, Lairg, Loch Erriboll…..so much to see and all so beautiful locally.
As mentioned previously cheapest fuel and supermarket at ASDA Tain a 10 mile return trip. To cap it all Mrs Walker Smith provided us with 6 fresh eggs and a superb cake upon departure which was an unexpected but delicious gift. We will definitely be back and this is a really great ALL Year CL.

Last of the few cracking CL’s
This working croft epitomises what CL’s are all about. Sadly it’s one of the few left. Remote yet accessible, charming yet rustic, peaceful yet far from isolated. We travelled here for Hogmanay. Called owner prior to arriving and was given friendly information to guide us in. On arrival you have all that you need from a CL site, water, power, access to chemical disposal. The views are absolutely incredible and the whole area has plenty to do, stunning walks for all levels nearby via woodland at Loch Migdale. Owners incredibly friendly and helpful even invited us into their home for mignight bells.
I am somewhat staggered and confused by an earlier review of this site and having spoken to the owner on departure I saw how upset she was by this comment. What do people honestly expect. It’s a working Croft where the owners have compromised their living space to allow members a great value place to park and enjoy part of their home. We departed arms full with the kind gift of eggs and cake. We will most certainly be back over the years!!! Yes there are working collies, yes the chemical disposal is accessed via a lid to a modern septic tank it’s one of the best value CL’s out there with some charging stupid prices. Support CL’s like this and enjoy them !
Fine views & friendly folks!
Stayed, on this working croft, in our motorcaravan on several occasions and always found the owners very friendly and approachable. Views stupendous, and with Dornoch, Lairg & Falls of Shin close by, is ideal for trips out from a peaceful base. These days with the costs of sites escalating Drumbhan offers good value.Eggs, cakes and other goodies available on site are a bonus! Fuel up at the Asda just off the Tain bypass but beware of the fast traffic at the junction especially if towing.
BREATHTAKING VIEWS BUT PEACE SPOILT BY OWNERS DOG
Beautiful views, but site VERY basic (but adequate) had chemical disposal via a hole in the ground with a lid. (One was able to see everything previously deposited yuk) It does have electric and fresh water. Shame the bins were not tended to, as they were left overflowing and we took our rubbish away with us!
However amazingly beautiful views ( were its only real saving grace) Our stay was spoiled by virtue of the fact that the owner's dog (a collie) used the CL pitch area as its personal doggy loo. It was not a friendly dog toward other dogs, and although I tried to befriend it, it had a rather unpleasant 'look' about it. Having had many dogs this one was a working dog and was just left to roam doing its own thing, it is left outside all the while as far as we could see.
It was quite quiet here, apart from the usual tooing and froing of various farm machinery. So if you are you are looking for perfect peace, this is not the site.
If you are looking for wonderful views and do not mind dog fouling in front of your van, then welcome. I wont be back. Didn't see owners apart from when we paid. So cannot comment on whether they are friendly, helpful or not.
Out in the wilds but a lovely little site
We stayed here for 3 nights, most people seem to just use it for stop-overs but we wanted a good walk. The site is in a small field with gorgeous views, on a sight slope. The pitches are on hardstandings dotted around the field and we just needed to use ramps on one side. Very friendly owners, eggs, preserves and the odd cake were on sale when we visited. We had a couple of walks from the site - up to the radio mast on the hill behind with amazing views, and down to Loch Migdale where there are Woodland Trust walks among the woods - this was a 9 mile round trip but you could take your vehicle to the road above if this is too far. There are also woodland walks on the main road west of Bonar Bridge. A good basic CL, no facilities but views to die for and follow the instructions , not your satnav!

Great views
Well worth making the effort to navigate the diversion caused by road works - but we were "talked in" expertly by the owner. Great all round views and beautifully quiet. The eggs and tablet were lovely too. Highly recommended.

Breath-taking
The view from this CL will take your breath away! It's very quiet which is what you might expect. Hard standing which are fairly level. The approach might scare some but very little other traffic so no need to worry. Good walks from the site. Plenty of wildlife. And a bargain at £8 per night.

Ideal Getaway
We have now been to this site three years running for our main holiday. Our unit is a caravan and car so we day trip. As said the site is basic but that’s what you get with a CL. We go for the setting, quietness and views looking down over Bona Bridge and the Dornoch Firth. This year we spotted wild otters feeding in the river just outside of Bona Bridge from the road. The owners are very friendly and will advise on the local area also sell some home-made produce from their door way. At night you get some of the best star filled skies with very little or no light pollution. It is an ideal place to tour most of northern Scotland as the roads are so good; many times we have had supper on the far North West coast and been back on site in an hour or so. The dogs’ love it too as you will find no end of very good walks for all standards many well marked or just visit one of the forests which have walkers welcome signs. The local services are very good with many big supermarkets set up in and around Tain. If you travel around there are plenty of good hotels and restaurants to eat at locally or further afield serving all tastes.
